Mangaluru, Jul 18: The third JMFC court here has sentenced two persons accused of illegally possessing revolver and live ammunition, to a year each of simple imprisonment and fine of Rs 500. Raghuraj Singh Bagil alias Tillu (31) from Madhya Pradesh, and Srikant from Azad Nagar in Gadag district, were handed down this sentence on Friday July 17.

The court found them guilty for violating provisions of The Arms Act.

Raghuraj, who was moving about in a suspicious manner at Pate House in Naguri in the city was noticed by rural police sub-inspector, Prakash, on March 19, 2010 during night patrol. Prakash found during interrogation that Raghuraj was in possession of a revolver and five live bullets. Later, Srikant was taken into custody and found to be in possession of four live bullets. Charge sheets were filed against both of them in course of time after completion of investigation.

Judge of the third JMFC court, Hundi Manjula Shivappa, who conducted hearing in the case, came to the conclusion that charges against both the accused had been proved. Although the eyewitnesses present during the time the things were seized from the persons have turned hostile, the court sentenced the accused, mainly relying on police witnesses.

Assistant professor of forensic laboratory Bengaluru, N G Prabhakar, and the then additional deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Prabhakar Sharma, had adduced evidence in this case. Assistant public prosecutor, B Mohan Kumar, had appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
