Udupi: Fishing boat topples mid sea - one dies, another missing

Udupi, Jul 18: A small fishing boat toppled mid sea on Saturday, July 18 with one person confirmed dead and one feared drowned.

Ravindra Kotian (33) is the person deceased. He breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

Shivanand Kotian (26)  is still missing and feared dead. Another person named Vijeth has been admitted to Adarsh hospital in Udupi and is said to be recovering.

9 people had gone fishing on Saturday morning off Padukere coast near Malpe in a small boat. The boat toppled mid sea around 150 meters off the shore due to reasons not known yet.

Searching operation is on with the arrival of fire brigade, police and other rescue personnel.

MP Oscar Fernandes and MLA Pramod Madhwaraj visited the hospital and mortuary.

Other six occupants of the boat are safe.

Malpe police have registered the case.
