Only 20 legislators have given up cylinder subsidy so far

Bengaluru, Jul 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Give It Up’ campaign has few takers from the affluent class especially from the elected representatives in the state, it appears.

So far only 20 MLAs have given up the subsidy on the LPG cylinders with a message to the state –‘It is very difficult to give up things in life, even a subsidy on LPG cylinders’.

Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande, Home Minister K J George, Information Minister R Roshan Baig and Labour Minister P T Parameshwar Naik are the four ministers who said no to the subsidy. State BJP president Pralhad Joshi, Shivakumar Udasi, Prabhakar Kore (all from BJP) and Prakash Hukkeri (Congress) are the four MPs who gave up the said subsidy. .

Of the 20 MLAs, 10 are from the Congress including the four ministers, seven from the BJP and three from the JD(S).

One can get Non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinder at Rs 630. Subsidized cylinder costs Rs 425.

Karnataka ranks third among the states in the country in adopting ‘Give It Up’ campaign. Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are in the first and the second positions respectively.

Till now 67,441 LPG consumers have given up the subsidy in the state. Bengaluru Urban tops the list with 33,492 consumers. Dakshina Kannada with 3185 consumers and Kodagu with 2630 consumers rank second and third respectively.

A consumer customer can give up the subsidy by sending a SMS to the number which is used for booking LPG refill supply. One can also tell the distributor about it or do it online.
