Mangaluru, Jul 19: The results of the day-long mid-term election for the post of five directors of Mangalore Catholic Co-operative (MCC) Bank were announced late evening on Sunday July 19.

Anil Lobo's team emerged victorious, grabbing all the five seats.

The elections were held at St Aloysius High School from 9 am to 4 pm, after which the votes were counted. Totally 2,782 votes were cast.

The winners were Anil Lobo, who garnered the maximum votes of 1,478, followed by Marcel Mathew D'Souza (1,456), Kishore D'Silva (1,391) and Raymond Monteiro (1,303). Severine Lobo with 1,396 votes defeated Ninet Tellis (1,276) to win the post of director reserved for woman.

Soon after the results were declared, jubilant winners and their supporters held a victory celebration. The winners were garlanded and paraded around the campus, with drums accompanying the procession.

Speaking to daijiworld, Anil Lobo demanded chairman Francis Cutinho's resignation and said, "We fought this election only to end the dictatorship of the chairman. I want to bring transperancy and development in the Bank. The shareholders have elected our team because of the failure of the chairman. He is unfit to hold the position of the chairman and he must resign immediately from the post. If he has any respect for MCC Bank he should choose the director's post for himself."

Asked about his plans for MCC Bank, he said he has already mentioned a five-point agenda in his handbills and will do his best to fulfill them.

Severine Lobo told told daijiworld, "All five contestants from Anil Lobo's team have won. It is really an amazing feeling. This is the first time I am contesting the MCC Bank election. Many have toiled for this victory, worked hard on the field and encouraged me. I thanks them and congratulate AnilLobo and all the winners."

Mr. Anil Lobo, I have few questions for you, Please answer this

As per the statement mentioned below -
"Anil Lobo demanded chairman Francis Cutinho's resignation and said : "The shareholders have elected our team because of the failure of the chairman. He is unfit to hold the position of the chairman and he must resign immediately from the post. If he has any respect for MCC Bank he should choose the director's post for himself""

In the year 2013, you were Francis Cutinho's supporter and asked us to vote for him. Now why do you feel that he is not eligible for his post? Why did you support him at that time without knowing whether he is eligible or not?
Why do you feel he is unfit for the post now, while in 2013 you said he's best for the post?

In the Year 2008, when Mr. Melwyn Dcunha contested , Anil Lobo was the main supporter... In the Year 2013 when Mr. Francis Cutinha was contesting again Anil Lobo was the main supporter and was against Mr. Melwyn Dcunha.

This time he was against Mr. Francis Cutinha and won the elections himself.

Nevertheless, Mr. Anil Lobo - Congratulations, Hoping to see some development in MCC Bank.

Instead of toppling the present Chairman, Anil Lobo and his newly elected Directors should sit in the opposition and fight for the development of the MCC Bank and should not allow anybody to loot the bank. They should raise their voice against the Chairman if he takes any wrong decision.Shareholders of MCC Bank know very well what the past Chairmen like J.O.B.A.Andrade, Valentine D'Silva had done for the Bank. Only Melwyn D'Cunha and his team had done some good work. And again Francis Cutinho along with Anil Lobo revolted against Melwyn D'Cunha. Once elected, the Directors should continue for 5 years. Because every rupee spent belongs to the shareholders of the Bank and not to the Chairman or Directors. So be careful. Otherwise shareholders will teach you a good lesson.

To all those who commented here (So called Qualified Persons)

Instead of commenting, why can’t you people contest the elections?

If Anil Lobo had no quality within himself, then for surely he wouldn’t have won all the 5 seats against the Ruling Party. There was no one from Anil’s side to greet the voters with T-Shirts, Umbrellas etc. It was won just because of the belief of the Shareholders and the members on Anil.

I can see all the comments here are made by non voters and non depositors who simply sit at home and comment. Instead you people get yourself involved in the matters of the Bank. By commenting here, the Bank will never be developed.

Winning the midterm election is only the beginning. The real test/challenge begins now on wards -as many of the enlightened/knowledgeable Daijiworld readers have mentioned, the bank has to undergo a thorough revamping as well as change in mindset, together with proper planning/goal-setting.

Modern day banking has undergone such a vast change, not only in technology, but also in products (deposits, advances, wealth-management/tax savings schemes, besides numerous insurance schemes) and services, which not only require an in depth knowledge of banking/finance, as well as a proactive customer-friendly approach on the part of all the bank's staff members.

I wish the new team all the best and hope that they will give their best to build up this prestigious, but neglected bank, to the highest level, as desired by their numerous customers, shareholders and well-wishers.

Finally, in these highly competitive times, only the fittest can survive and flourish!

It is very pathetic to state that the persons who do not know basic English and have proper qualification are running the financial institution. Imagine how will the bank grow where were all these people when the bank was in real trouble, these are the people who critcised the institution are know fighting like crabs for power. When the roots are not strong how can u expect the tree to give good fruit. The people occupying the top seats have reached there not by hard work but by doing lip service and tale carrying. Kindly verify the so called C.E.O has worked in any of the branches in his entire carrier what are his credentials a C.E.O.is a ambassador of any organisation it is a pity that M.C.C.Bank has a C.E.O. without any credentials who knows only to laugh and act like a donkey on what the management directs. Kindly allow persons having knowledge to run the institution and not a person whose profession is playing sound system, then there will be no work but only orchestra, imagine if such a person becoming a chairman who has zero knowledge of banking. It is pitty that shareholders elect such people.

Anil u have won and made promises kindly keep up to those see that unwanted favoritism does not take place. u have directors with banking knowledge and experience take their expertise by actively involving them in the different committees. Kindly stop dictatorship which had taken place, take strict action against the staff who involve them in dirty politics of tale carring.

Look at Bharath Co op Bank Mumbai presently headed by great visionary Sri Jaya Suvarna, bank which was established much much later the MCC!It is just like a commercial bank now.
Instead of directors often indulging in internal politics/poliricks people should look around growth of other commercial/co-banks around us.There is tremendous scope for banking even now in Mangalore and elsewhere. Why MCC is has a retradded growth being controlled by highly educated and intellectuals?

Dear All, Though we are miles away from Mangalore, we still belong to Mangalore and keenly are interested in knowing all that happens in Mangalore. I think Anil has created an enemy for himself by his reactive words of demanding resignation from the former chairman. Well I do not know the former chairman at all. But why to create enmity by uttering unbecoming words ? I agree with Francis Lobo's comments with regard to the limited branches of MCC Bank. I am in a place called Mirzapur in the Eastern U.P. I am surprised to see all the Mangalore originated banks in this corner of the country ! Very recently Corporation Bank is inaugurated here and to my surprise I have come to know that already more than 3000 customers have opened their accounts here. Within a radius of 5 kilometers there are as many as 40 banks around here. Will MCC bank reach as far as Manjeshwar or Kasargod ? Or say Sasthan or Kundapur ? More smiles on the faces of the elected members are not because they have been elected but because more money is seen ahead. If I am not mistaken long ago there was some problem in the MCC bank years ago when I was a young boy. It struggled to come back to life. I hope there will not be scams and irregularities in the MCC bank and in its branches like many other finance companies owned by Catholic firms like Puttur D' Souzas, Erodes, Maharastra Apex, the some other like Agri Gold etc. There are instances where some committed suicide because of this firms. Let the team members be sincere and truthful in caring on the responsibilities entrusted upon them. It would be always edifying to see the MCC growing day by day and step by step. All the Best to all the cabinet members and all the officers,Managers, employees. Being christian let us not be politicians fighting against one another for power and fame but sincerely work for the good name od MCC. God Bless.

What are we fighting for? MCC bank is 100 years old and where the bank is today. Still with 10 branches. That too in Mangalore-Udipi region. Banks which started in the coastal region like,Canara, Syndicate, Corporation, Karnataka ,Vijaya, have become national banks and spread their branches worldwide. All these banks are listed and professionally run. Some of them also completed 100 years also. Imagine the amount of NRI money of Konkani Catholics lying in these banks. We still fight who will be director or who is for one team and who is not. The Konkani Catholics have really become crabs. It is right time RBI takes over the bank and attaches it to other banks, like they did with Amanath bank.Hell with changing directors every 5 year and that too fighting. The employees may get a secure job, a better pay and peace of mind.Imagine the power of a single man Dr. B R Shetty, who single handedly built the UAE Exchange and runs successfully with professional team. All Catholics should go to RBI and recommend taking over of this bank.No fun in running!

In fact they are active in management formation politics all the times. Unless and until you bring new professional staff inside bank the system will remain the same.
