Two Salesian priests die in road accident near Tumakuru

Tumakuru, Jul 20: Two Salesian priests were killed in a road accident on Saturday July 18 evening near Tumakuru.

Fr Thomas Myladoor (82) and Fr Madlemuthu Arulappa (38) are the persons deceased. They were returning from after attending one-day monthly recollection at Ajjanahalli, some 110 km west of Bengaluru, when the accident occurred.

According to preliminary reports the priests’ vehicle, a jeep, lost control and overturned. Both the priests died on the spot of the accident.The jeep had 7 passengers, 6 priests and a brother. Fr C V George, Fr Tommy, Fr Nitin George and Fr Pais sustained minor injuries. The name of the injured brother is not known.All belonged to Salesian community in Bengaluru province.

Fr Myladoor was the parish priest of Pavoor church near Manjeshwar from 1997 to 2006. He built the Holy Cross church which was opened in 2005. He was the second provincial of Bengaluru Salesian province. He hailed from Kottayam district in Kerala.

Fr Arulappa originally from Kanakapura was ordained in 2007. He was the principal of Tumakuru Don Bosco School.

Mortal remains of Fr Thomas Myladoor and Fr Madlemuthu Arulappa will be brought to Don Bosco Tumakuru on Monday July 20 and the funeral is scheduled at 3 pm same day at Kristu Jyoti College, TC Palayam, Bengaluru.

Don Bosco school at Manjeshwar has announced Monday as holiday on account of tragic death of its former correspondent.

    Thanks for your condolence and prayers to my beloved brother who was a priest and Principal from Don Bosco School in Tumkur.
    My brother was very sincere, faithful, hard-working and a great source of inspiration. We miss him a lot. His passion was educating the poor and give hope to hopeless.

    Eternal rest to Fr. Myladoor and Fr. Arulappa. there were only 3 Priests and 3 Brothers travelling back to Don Bosco Tumkur. The other 4 are safe except one priest and a brother with minor injuries.

    I had known Fr. MJ Thomas (Myladoor) from June 1968 (TPT days). He impressed me very much with his sense of responsibility. I had spoken with him last week over telephone and had planned to meet him in October 2015. Thank you, Fr. MJ for all you have been...to every one...

    Thanks for the report.Really sad to hear about the accident and the death of these priests.Fr Thomas Mylador is a great and holy person.Pavur parish and the Kasaragod deanery should be really indebted to him.He was simple humble ,lover of the poor and very spiritual.He was a source of inspiration and great help for the developmental activities in Kasaragod varado.May their souls rest in peace.

    Very sad to hear the sad demise of the priests whom we met personally in the month of January on our way from Mumbai to bangalore.We happened to attend mass in the Chappel,had breakfast with all of them,Fr.Thomas walked almost one hour with us when he took us around the campus and shared his experience. May their souls rest in peace.Praying for the speedy recovery of all those who are injured in this tragedy.
