Mangaluru, Jul 21: A master plan covering a detailed sketch on comprehensive development of Moodbidri has been prepared, and Moodbidri Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officials have been approached with a request for ad hoc approval. Once this project is approved, it is hoped that it will pave way for scientific and integrated development of the town.

A consultative meeting with municipal officials here was held recently about the by-laws required to be adopted for this purpose. This meeting was chaired by MUDA chairman, Suresh Kotian. Discussions on this mega project covering eight divisions were held.

In addition to the present municipal area here, area presently falling under several gram panchayat limits will also be included in this project. This project will have different zones like green zones (bio diversity conservation and sensitive zone), industrial zone (small, medium, and mega industries), residential zone (21 metres away from the road), with provision for a total of eight zones including agriculture, commerce, transport, and communications.

This project requires a population of about 75,000. As per the census held in 2011, the population of the town, leaving aside gram panchayat limits, stood at 29,400. The population has since swelled almost double, with the addition of students of three engineering colleges, about 20,000 students under Alva's educational institutions, and other colleges. Now, Puttige, Padumarnadu, and Hosabettu gram panchayats have been brought under the coverage area of this project.

Once the government gives green signal for the ad hoc nod given to the proposals, mega projects will start moving into the town, equipping this town to emerge as a systematic, well-equipped area with potential for scientific development.

However, some people will face problems once this mega project is implemented. People building apartment complexes without following rules will be one among them. Those who want to develop huge complexes will henceforth be required to get necessary approvals by visiting Bengaluru. It is being said that poor people and commners will not face any problems because of the implementation of this project, which is backed with a vision for future.

Chairman of MUDA, Suresh Kotian, says that this is a very good project which aims at scientific and disciplined development of the town. He said that several municipal councillors have come out with positive remarks about the project. He said that there is an opinion that all inner roads within the municipality should be turned into private roads.

However, several changes in these proposals may eventually be affected. The proposal will be sent to the government after placing it before MUDA and municipal council. Before that, the details will also be sent to government offices and opinions of the general public will also be elicited, he added. He is confident of implementing this mega project without creating problems for anyone.
