Union minister demands sports university in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, July 28 (IANS): Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh has written to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar urging him to set up a sports university in Gurgaon, saying that residents of a village in the district were willing to hand over 100 acres of panchayat land for the purpose.

The residents of Gwalior village near Pachgaon on the Delhi-Jaipur-Mumbai National Highway 8 have offered 100 acres of land free of cost to the Haryana government for setting up the sports university and academy.

The union minister of state for statistics and programme implementation, planning and defence, who is also BJP parliamentarian from Gurgaon, said the village land was perfect for setting up the proposed university since it was situated on National Highway 8 and Kundali-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway.

The union minister said Gurgaon was lacking in sports activities for a long time and such a university was most required to promote sports in the region.

The village panchayat has also offered two acres for setting up a yoga academy.
