Heavy rains lash Delhi, traffic hit

New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS): Heavy rains lashed parts of the national capital and adjoining Noida, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad on Wednesday, leading to traffic snarls on flooded roads.

It was a second day of showers in Delhi, bringing welcome respite from the muggy weather.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the city received 0.8 mm of rainfall from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

The showers led to traffic jams at major intersections and arterial roads like ITO and Connaught Place in central Delhi, Shadipur Depot in west Delhi and Dhaula Kuan and Ashram in south Delhi, the Delhi Traffic Police said.

The day's maximum temperature settled two notches above the season’s average at 35.1 degrees while the minimum was 26.5 degrees. More rains are expected in the city on Thursday, the IMD said.

"The sky will remain cloudy tomorrow (Thursday) and parts of the city will get rain," the IMD official said.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 34 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 26 degrees Celsius, which is the season's average.
