Bengaluru, Aug 10: Devadatt Kamat from Uttara Kannada district, who happens to be a Supreme Court (SC) lawyer, has been appointed as additional advocate general of Karnataka state.

Devadatt Kamat is a fourth generation lawyer from Karwar, practicing in the Supreme Court of India. He graduated from ILS Law College, Pune, with distinction and later on completed his postgraduate (LLM) degree in international business law from London School of Economics. He has been practicing in the Supreme Court since 2001. He is on the panel of government of India and represents several public sector undertakings in the Supreme Court.

Kamat has deep interest in Philanthropy and poverty alleviation, apart from rural health, youth empowerment, education of children from backward classes.

He was elected to the Supreme Court Bar Association during 2009-10.

Kamat had represented India in the international court of justice in the case relating to border dispute with Bangladesh. He had also been associated with a number of important cases heard by Supreme Court.
