Kundapur, Aug 11: Villagers in the vicinity of Gulvadi held protests on the afternoon of Monday
August 10, opposing the shifting of Gulvadi grama panchayat.

Gulvadi Samskrithika Prathistana secretary Yakub Khader Gulvadi, speaking on behalf of the protesters, said that Gulvadi was a part of Karkunje Grama panchayat earlier and based on the several decades long demand of the villagers, was separated from Karkunje grama panchayat to form an independent grama panchayat. “However, attempts under the influence of some vested interests are on to shift the grama panchayat from Gulvadi to Mavinakatte and the shifting is too unscientific.”

“Gulvadi is centrally located and is ideal for all related activities. It is identified in cultural, religious and political circles. In these circumstances, it should not be shifted,” he said.

Former grama panchayat president Sardar Saheb, Vivekananda Bhandary, grama panchayat members S S Haneef, Sathish, Bachu Naika, Ganesh, Sandeep Rai, Ashwath Kumar Rai, Fakir Hasanabba, and Harish were present.

A memorandum in this connection was later handed over to Gulvadi grama panchayat development officer and vice-president G P Mohammed.
