Puttur: Moped rider falls into canal, rider loses life

Puttur, Aug 12: Naveen R Bhakta (62), a resident of Darbe Nekkila within Nekkilady village in the taluk died after slipping into a canal located near his home on Tuesday August 11. Bhakta was going towards Uppinangady from his home in his Bajaj M-80 two-wheeler, when he accidentally slipped into the canal near its protective wall, and could not muster enough strength to withstand force of water and wriggle himself out of the situation.

At the time, unfortunately, all his family members were away visiting a relative, and there was no one at home to help him out. Bhakta was working as distributor of bidis of a company to workers who wrapped them in company lables at their homes.

As soon as he came to know of the accident, Nekkilady gram panchayat vice president, Asgar Ali, social activist, Sadanand and others rushed to the spot and with the assistance of some local youth, succeeded in locating the body of the deceased as well as the two-wheeler, both of which had been washed away.

The deceased is survived by wife, son, and two daughters.
