Fr Chetan Machado appointed YCS/YSM national chaplain

New Delhi, Aug 20: Fr Chetan Machado (diocesan youth director of the archdiocese of Delhi) as well as regional youth director of ICYM/YCS northern region has been appointed as the YCS/YSM national chaplain. He will take charge in the month of September. The post was vacant as the present YCS/YSM national chaplain Fr Charles Menezes has been appointed international YCS chaplain. He will be having
his office at Paris/France.

YCS is the official wing of CBCI council for youth which was recognized by CBCI in 1969. ICYM the parochial youth movement which was approved in 1999 is another wing of CBCI council for youth.

Fr Chetan was born in Mai Deus parish, Shirva, Udupi diocese and went to Delhi after completing graduation in 1995. He completed philosophy in 1999 from Holy Trinity College, Jalandhar, Punjab. After two years of regency in Haryana and Delhi, he went to Vidyajyoti College for his theological studies. He was ordained priest in 2006 and served in Vasant Kunj parish for one year and was appointed asst priest at Sacred Heart cathedral in 2007. In 2010 he was appointed youth director of Delhi archdiocese. On March 9, 2014 he was appointed as regional youth director of northern region. He held various responsibilities in the diocese. He is also a consultor of the archdiocese. At present he resides at Defence Colony parish Delhi and his regional as well as diocesan office at Yusuf Sadan, Delhi.

Fr Chetan is a man of God. He is known for his friendly nature. He rejuvenated the youth movement of Delhi and took up various initiatives to revive the youth of Delhi. Today there is a vibrant youth movement in the archdiocese of Delhi. He is hard working and committed to his mission. In the midst of a busy schedule he renders his services in designing various souvenirs of the diocesan schools and magazines. He also designs ICYM national youth magazine 'Apna Yuva Spandan' and YCS national youth Magazine 'Serach'. He is a good motivator and trainer too. He is a multi talented priest with a simple life style.

Fr Charles Menezes has been in this position till now. He has been promoted to the post of international director for IYCS – JECI (international young catholic students) on July 24 this year. He
congratulated Fr Chetan along with his IYCS – JECI team for this new responsibility and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.
