Mangalore, Jun 17: A sum of Rs. 25 lac has been released to initiate measures to control the sea erosion, said district In-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty near here on Saturday, June 17.

He was speaking at the KDP meeting held here on Saturday. He stated that he had requested the chief minister to release additional Rs 3 crores from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttar Kannada district to tackle sea erosion. Shetty further informed the meeting that the Centre has also approved the project for the construction of a sea wall and breakwater at Ullal to control sea erosion the cost of which is estimated at Rs. 291.7 crore.

MLA U T Khader said that last year boulders were not inserted into some gaps between Mogaveerapatana, Someshwar, and Kotepura, and hence immediate action was necessary for dumping in the boulders in the said regions. The fisheries department official said that he will inspect the spot and thereafter will submit his report to the Commissioner. Once the report is submitted to the DC, he will release the funds for the said work.
