Tokyo, Sep 3 (IANS): Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher on Thursday as investor sentiment was boosted by firm gains in the US stocks overnight and the yen's weakness against the dollar.
At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 303.31 points, or 1.68 percent, from Wednesday at 18,398.71, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 26.91 points, or 1.84 percent, at 1,492.90.
Every industry category on the main section saw gains, with gainers led by insurance, nonferrous metals and iron and steel issues.
