Mangaluru: Stagecraft performs 'You Never Can Tell’ play to support orphanages

Mangaluru, Sep 4: The drama troupe ‘Stagecraft’ performed their annual play titled 'You Never Can Tell' by Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw at T V Raman Pai Convention Centre in the city recently.

The play was directed by Ramona Mathias.









Stagecraft comprises of a group of vibrant, talented and enthusiastic people who share a love for theatre and a desire to contribute to Mangaluru society. Their mission is two-fold, to raise funds to help the underprivileged and provide entertainment to lovers of fine arts.

The beneficiaries are two orphanages in Mudipu and Panir which are run by Ursuline nuns who look after poor and destitute children.

For the past eight years, Ramona Mathias, along with her team, has been actively working towards providing these orphanages with food grains for the whole year and other necessities. Through Stagecraft’s annual play performance, they manage to raise enough funds to fulfil those needs.

Last year 'Stagecraft' performed a classic play by Oscar Wilde titled ‘An Ideal Husband’ and this year they put up a George Bernard Shaw play titled, ‘You never can Tell’. Both plays were set in the 1800’s in the Victorian era.

The group comprises of people from various professions such as doctors, lawyers, business persons, teachers and homemakers. A lot of effort and sacrifice to stage the play have been done selflessly keeping the cause in mind. The members of the cast were Ramona Mathias (directing and acting), Dr Ajay Kamath, Rajni Lobo Patrao,

Santosh Rodrigues, Leah Mascarenhas, Advocate David Pais, Dr Keith Palanna, Gerard D’Souza, Lovie Rebello, Nelofer Saldanha, Arjun Pinto and Rajiv Goveas. Helping the group with their costumes and makeup was Sandra Anna of Kohl Black Studio. Stage setting was handled by Michelle Andrade and Sandra Mascarenhas. Prompting was done by Patra Saldanha and music was handled by Simona Fernandes.

An audience of approximately 400 people came to watch the play, to support the cause and to encourage the group. Stagecraft looks forward to staging many more plays in the future.

    Hats off to Ramonaand Team. Our country needs philanthropist like youll, who are inspiration to other lay people. You are on the right part of providing the basic need to the children of lesser God rather than those politicians who speak of technology and crores of rupees,which is of no use if it cannot even provide basic needs like food,shelter,clother,education,shelter,medical aid to the poor and needy.
