Udupi, Sep 7: Notorious underworld element Bannanje Raja was on Monday September 7 produced in court here after his police custody of 9 days ended.

The court sent him to judicial custody of one day, after which further custody will be decided upon.

Raja was arrested in Morocco in February this year, and brought to India last month. He is being probed for 16 of the 44 cases he is charged in, four of which are in various police stations of Udupi.

On August 29, he was sent to police custody for 9 days, for investigation into the shootout at Atrady Jewellers in 2011. The police have not revealed any information about the progress of the probe.

Now, Raja is being interrogated in connection to the robbert attempt on Anand Shetty at Santhekatte in 2013. There were eight accused in the case, out of which police have arrested 6 including Raja, and two are absconding. The police had earlier arrested Mohammed Masood, Haneef, Sachin Poojary, Shamsuddin and Syed Buran in the case, which Siraj Hasan and Sameer are still at large.

Raja's custody for interrogation into the case will be decided on Tuesday September 8.

After being produced in the court, Raja was shifted to Hiriadka jail.
