Kundapur, Sep 8: Two youngsters, who followed a girl studying in eighth standard, and tossed a chit containing a telephone number at her, were chased by locals and beaten up. The incident occurred at Alur near Hemmady in the taluk on Sunday September 6.

The girl in question had left the home of her grandmother at Haklady to go to her mother's home in Narkali, Harkur village by bus. Sagar (24) and Chandra Poojary (23), who were sitting near the Bhajana Mandir at Hakladygudde, observing that the girl was alone, followed her closely in a motor bike. When the girl got down from bus at Harkur-Nada Cross and began to walk towards her home alone, the youngsters rushed towards her and threw a chit containing telephone number of one of them. The youngsters then left towards Alur.

The girl, who had never met or known these youth before, informed about the development to her uncle, who called his friends in Alur, and asked them to stop the youngsters and question them about this behaviour. Accordingly, the two were stopped by locals and questioned near Alur panchayat office. They tried to escape by lying to them that they were going to deliver clothes to a tailor for stitching. The locals asked them to show them the cloth, but the youngsters did not have any. The two were then beaten up, and asked to tell the truth, threatening to hand them over to police. The youngsters then confessed to their misadventure, it is learnt.

Chandra Poojary works in a tyres shop at Trasi, while Sagar does centering work, it is said. The two did not attend their work regularly, and used to while away time by sitting at bus stands, Bhajana Mandir etc, it is learnt. Chandra Poojary, it is said, had once earlier been nabbed by Gangolli police for creating problems for a girl.
