Puttur, Sep 9: City municipal president, Jeevandhar Jain, said that a memorandum will soon be submitted to the state minister for municipal administration and urban development minister on behalf of the city municipal council (CMC), as the government has not yet extended any of the facilities to which this city is entitled to, after its upgradation as city municipal council. He noted that it has been six months since the announcement to upgrade the city was made.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday September 8, Jain noted that in tune with the above, the city municipal council should have received additional grants. Likewise, as per the eligibility criteria for city municipality, additional officers and other staff should have been appointed, and more civic workers should have been provided. "As against 100 civic workers for which we are eligible, only 12 are provided now. Therefore, we are compelled to get people on contract basis. If full time workers are provided, there will not be any need to hire contract workers," he explained.

Jain stated that the city council is facing the eventuality of working with only one engineer, as the other engineer has received transfer order. Taking into account problems being faced by the administration, he said that these issues would be discussed in the general session of the council, and a delegation would be taken to the ministers to impress upon them the need to urgently cater to the needs of the city. He added that similar memorandums would also be submitted to the local MLA.

About the increasing number of multi-storied byuildings in the city, he said that care is being taken to see that rules and regulations are strictly followed while building these complexes. He added that a meeting of Civil Engineers Association would be convened soon to apprise them of the rules in force.
