Kundapur, Sep 10: A forest watcher of Siddapur forest division suffered serious injuries after a deer jumped over him when he was moving on his motor bike. This incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday September 8.

The forest watcher, Basava Mogaveera (58), was returning to his home at Sauda in the taluk after his duty hours on his motor bike. When he was passing through Airbail village, a deer that was crossing the road, hit him as he was passing through the spot at the time. Mogaveera fell to the road along with his two-wheeler, and suffered serious injuries to head, back, and hands. A report about the incident was filed both at Shankarnarayana police station and forest department.

Mogaveera, who is just two years away from his retirement, has wife and three children as his dependents. Because of the current injury, he has been confined to bed, and is unable to move. The condition of the only breadwinner of the family has left the family clueless about the future.

There has been an increase in the number of deer and antelopes in the forest region, and many of them hit passing two-wheelers, injuring the riders often. Over 20 bike riders have been injured in such incidents since sometime, and a biker had died in similar incident at Kavrady near Ampar three years back. Taluk panchayat member, Amparu Pradeepkumra Shetty, has urged the department to take steps to reduce such accidents.
