Bantwal: Why to implement anti environment project? - Justice Hegde

Bantwal, Sep 13: “No project which affects the environment should be taken up at all. It is also illegal to start the work without acquiring the land from common people as per the land acquisition act.” said Justice Santosh N Hegde, the former Lokayuktha of Karnataka.

Justice Hegde was speaking during the lecture held at Sri Satya Sai education trust on account of JCI week 2015 in Vittal near here.

“I do not have fact and figures in hand to talk about Yettinahole project. But I am sure that projects which are against the nature do not work. River Netravathi diversion is a vote bank gimmick. And unfortunately it is being done in illegal ways.” Justice Santosh Hegde added.

Coming down heavily on corruption, Justice Hegde said "Corruption has affected every institution including the Lokayuktha. It seems that there is no place without corruption. The youth of the nation should start boycotting the corrupt persons from the society. This is the country of highest corruption. Commonwealth, 2 G and coal gate scams have affected the nation a lot. Even water is not spared in corruption. Government does not even have the proper accounts of Rs 51,000 crore released for drinking water purpose. Judiciary should help in speeding up the process of justice. Presently some cases take twenty years to see judgement which is wrong. People should join the government service without selfishness."

How I wish we had leaders like Justice Hegde in our society. We would have lived in a better place. Corruption has become Norm of the day, there is Corruption at every stage in Politics and every where. We are not opposing to development, but question is " development at what cost " ? By diverting rivers, we are playing with nature thus rivers will dry and we will have no water to drink.! I wish our Politicians and people who have decided on this project think again and re-consider implementing Yettinahole Project.

It is very frightening that the trend seems to be for criminals to proceed with the illegal act and then let the onus be on the affected victims prove that a wrong was committed.

I'm sure that there are some decent individuals in the government, but the illicit behavior of the corrupt tarnishes everyone associated.

Are we any less corrupt, if we contribute to the situation?

Hegde during his tenure as Lok Ayukta overlooked the overstay Arif a police officer who surprisingly moved from Inspector to IG all the time in the Loka Ayukta office. Arif ran riot during a Hegde's time and continued to do that during Bhaskar Rao's time, with the results for everyone to see.

Ms. Gladys what a silly example you are giving??

Whatever the project, first you have to see the locals health & convenience.

What development you are talking about??

Can you go and build a house near Nagarjun to stay there??

Do you know the local poor farmers suffering there??

Do you know the Industries affecting the fisherman also. All the waste water dumped to sea.

When you go to fish market, you bargain with them, how much they struggle due to lack of fish do you know?

Development you are talking, why National highway still not completed even though it is 9th year. The project suppose to complete within 2 years? The great Mr.Oscar Fernandes was Minister for National Highway projects.

In the name of development Politicians are developing their Bank accounts thats all.

Do you know 4 to 5 hours power cut in Karavali districts and the power sources diverted to other districts of Karnataka.

Yettinaholey project also, by putting Karavali farmers in trouble & diverting the river water to other districts of Karnataka.

    Improve your GK Madam.

    Dear P Sathish Kumar HMS
Please read my comment thoroughly . I didn't mentioned about Yethinahole or other specified Project . It's true that whenever any kind of development project comes our politicians make use the situation for their personal gains . I am sure due to Yethinahole there will be shortage of water in Dakshina Kannada

Mr. Justice Hegde was talking about Yettinaholey project also, at present whole Karavali worried about this project. But This arrogant Congress rulers & CM told no one can stop this project.

I visited & seen the Padubidri & surrounding area , due to burning of Coal, Ashes everywhere. All the plantation spoiled. Well water can't drink or use for personal use.

We slept on the street to protest during that project but government purchased some leaders by giving them suitcases. So poor locals could not stop.

Now Yettinaholey is the worst project for our Karavali people.

Mark my word, keeping quit now means we are inviting disasterous future.

    May God bless us.
    Praise the Lord.
