Special arrangements for Radhashtmi celebrations

Barsana (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 18 (IANS): Elaborate surveillance arrangements have been put in place and scores of sanitation workers have been deployed for the lakhs of pilgrims expected in this Uttar Pradesh town on Monday to celebrate Radhashtmi.

Radhashtmi will see the birth celebrations of goddess Radha, Sri Krishna's consort, worshipped by millions of Hindus.

Over five lakh pilgrims are expected to visit the holy town of Barsana, a place also known for the Lathmar Holi celebrations.

The district administration has been working overtime to ensure that the proceedings go off smoothly and without any hassles for the pilgrims.

Mathura District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar said "we have made elaborate security arrangements, CCTV cameras are in place, new railings have been provided to climb up to the main temple atop the hill."

He said more than 150 cleanliness and sanitation workers will be on duty and personnel will be deployed to regulate traffic.

He said authorities were being assisted by Braj Ujjawal, an NGO which did good work in the Goverdhan fair for over 40 days, providing mobile toilets and ensuring cleanliness.

Officials said pilgrims will be allowed to go up the temple in batches to avoid chances of a stampede. The town will get electricity without interruption and water tankers will be made available for the pilgrims.

New parking slots have been developed for people coming from Haryana and Delhi.
