Bagakot: Tata Ace-tanker accident - 13 perish, three injured

Bagalkot, Sep 19: In an accident which occurred at Hoskoti Cross near Lokapura in Mudhol taluk on Friday September 18, 13 persons lost their lives, whereas three others suffered injuries.

The accident occurred when a tanker carrying diesel to Belgaum from Mudhol smashed a Tata Ace vehicle carrying people, when trying to overtake a TumTum passenger vehicle moving in front of it. The Tata Ace vehicle split into two in the accident. Driver of the tanker, identified as Mahantesh, escaped from the scene of the accident.

All the deceased and injured were inside the packed Tata Ace vehicle. Ten died on the spot, while three others breathed their last when being taken to hospital. Three injured persons are yet to be identified. All the deceased and injured belonged to Kanasageri, KIlla Hoskoti and Dadanatti villages of Mudhol taluk, and were returning after visiting Lokapur for the weekly vegetable market there, after buying the things needed by them. Most of the persons who died and suffered injuries were coolies.

Immediately after the accident, the tanker fell by its side, and diesel started leaking. The fire brigade personnel continuously sprayed water on leaked diesel and made sure that fire did not get ignited.

The deceased have been identified as Somappa Gadigennavar (50), Subhas Yadwad (48), Hanumant Huligennavar (40), Ramanna Galagali (50), Shetteppa Madara (60), Hanumant Yadahalli (32) from Dadanatti village, Ramanagouda Patil (60), Yankavva Galagali (65), Yamanavva Madar (35) and Kalloleppa Madar (27) from Kanasageri, Venkanna Malloor (60) from Killa Hoskoti, Tata Ace driver, Rajesab Dangi (25), and Laxmavva Gadadannavar (55) from Venkatapur.

District superintendent of police, Lada Martin Marbiang, said that the policemen are searching fro tanker driver, Mahentesh Chikkamath, who is absconding. District in-charge minister, S R Patil, and MLA, Govind Karjol, visited the accident spot and hospital. Patil announced compensation of one lac rupees to each of the families of the deceased.

    RIP.Very Sad tragedy.More strict punishment to be layed all kind of drivers & riders.Police are collecting cash and no punishment.New Driving re-Test are need of the hour.These kind of dummy vehicles should be banned from the people transportation too.
