Bengaluru, Sep 19: The State government has an "open mind" on the proposed Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practices Bill, Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he blamed the media for not giving enough space to the supporters of controversial Anti-Superstition Bill and said the State Government was open to enact the law to curb blind beliefs if people wanted it.

Asked if the State Government was ready to reconsider its decision now, Jayachandra said, "The State Government has open mind. If people want it we will definitely table the Bill in both the Houses legislature. The Bill is already ready and is pending before the Social Welfare Department."

The minister also appealed to media to educate people on the necessity of the Bill.

The minister said there were lot of people wanted the government to enact a law to punish those practice superstitions.

Unfortunately, people supporting the Bill did not get an opportunity to raise their voice in media, forcing the State Government to put the Bill on the backburner, Jayachandra said.

He, however, said a lot of people were expressing the need for such a law after the brutal killing of researcher M M Kalburgi at his residence in Dharwad last month.

The minister said he had piloted the idea for extensive debate in the public.

Unfortunately, a section of leaders and BJP criticised the Bill and issued critical statements to the media.

The State Government is ready for discussion of the Bill if a majority of members in both Houses of the State legislature agreeing to it, Jayachandra said.

On Tuesday, a group of writers and family members of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and CPI leader Govind Pansare, both of whom were killed in Maharashtra, urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to pass the Bill, which has been kept in cold storage following opposition in the State.

Minister Jayachandra - you have rightly said that BJP is against enacting Anti-superstition Act, because BJP is thriving mainly on Superstition of the Hindus as regards Cows or Astrologers or Vastu Pandits, or gracing the occasions connected with Religious superstitions. Actually superstition is the blood running in the veins of BJP people. In fact their own Veer Savarkar was deadly against superstitions as he was an atheist or Nasthik.

    Dear readers,

In the larger interest of the citizens of India the Government is thinking this bill need to be passed with 'open-mind' should be tabled immediately in assembly.

How many MM Kalburgi need to sacrifice who are awarded with National Sahitya Akademy? The threat perception is continued today from Sri Rama Sena which saw arrest yesterday for threatening senior writer Chennaveera Kanavi and Giraddi Govindaraj.K.S.Bhagwan is already in the list of these element.

Do we need more Godman like Radhe maa,Swami Nityananda,Asaram Bapu, Rampal etc continue to exploit?

Do Government wait for more Panesar and Dabholkar to be slain to enact the law?

It is indeed collective decision which need BJP support to remove superstitions from the society.

All the Politicians, to whichever party they belong, all are highly superstitious.
Naturally they will not allow Anti-superstition Bill to be passed. Under some lame pretext they will keep on postponing passing of this bill.
This is just like Lokpal Bill. Everyone will talk against corruption in our political system just like Sathya Harishchandra, but no one really wants to legally banish corruption by passing Lokpal bill. All are just hypocrites.

The open mind of the congress govt means fear or favour. The continued disturbances of sangh parivar especially in coastal region and complete nerveless silence of three ministers with seven MLAs proved that they have no guts at all.

Thousands of superstitions in India, a country with the highest volume of superstitions and milking the gullible religious people.

They were mainly based on religious foundation, created by the human beings, either out of fear of the nature or simply to enjoy the fun in torturing and exploiting others who were not strong willed and less powerful in the society using the religious spade card.

It is high time to eradicate hundreds of such traditions which may make the master players of superstitions jobless, but the gullible believers can save money and can have more peace of mind.
