Hubballi, Sep 20: Madhya Pradesh police have arrested a person who was allegedly involved in selling call detail records (CDR) of prominent persons. The business is said to be pan-India and the epicenter of the crime is Hubballi.

Satish 'Police' Patil (40), originally from Dharwad is the person arrested. Satish is said to have a doctorate in criminology and forensic science. The arrest was done in Hubballi on September 13 but the details have been revealed just recently. He has been booked under forgery and IT Acts, police sources said.

In his Facebook profile, Satish introduces himself as a 'teaching assistant' and lecturer at Belagavi Chennamma University.

As per details of the case, Madhya Pradesh police had information that VIP telephone call detail records were being sold in that state. When they investigated further, they came to know that a person named Rajkumar Vishwakarma was selling the data in Bhopal. Vishwakarma was running a private detective agency.

An undercover police detective went to Vishwakarma and requested for the call detail records of a particular telephone number. Vishwakarma demanded Rs 15,000 as advance and Rs 10,000 to be paid later for the service.

Vishwakarma promptly deposited Rs 15,000 into Satish Patil’s bank account. Accordingly the undercover police officer was given the call detail records of the particular telephone number through email by Vishwakarma. He also demanded Rs 10,000 to be paid as arranged earlier. Vishwakarma was arrested on June 16. He revealed that he knew Satish through Facebook.

Police upon checking Satish’s Facebook account discovered that Vishwakarma was indeed his Facebook friend and he had uploaded many posts regarding detective natters.

ATS department of Madhya Pradesh police came to Hubballi and arrested Satish on September 13. They checked the email accounts of Satish and came to know that he had call detail records of 34 prominent persons. He had managed to erase a few records from his other email accounts, and police are trying to retrieve the same.

Satish had worked in the research and development wing of the police earlier. His grandfather worked in the police department during the British era and his father is a retired soldier. Hence Satish uses 'Police' as his middle name. Satish used to deal with CDR and public switched telephone network (PSTN) call records, said sources.

Satish did his MA in 1997-98 from Karnataka University and followed it up with a PhD in criminology.

M.P Police came all the way to Hubballi and arrested Satish Polispatil, but our Mangalore police could not go to Delhi and arrest all those Hindiwala cheaters who take ATM pin from gullible people of our district and draw money from the Account of Karnataka people. Even though the cheated people of our D.K provide Karnataka police with the phone number of the cheater and how he withdrew the money by transferring to Online marketing company accounts, still Karnataka Police never take out callers details and go to Delhi and catch the culprits.
