Bengaluru, Sep 21: Union minister and former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda has broken his profound silence on the Yettinahole project. But he has made sure that the names of his political opponents are dragged into the matter.

“The personal fights between senior Congress leaders Veerappa Moily and Janardhana Poojary are reflected in the discussion about the Yettinahole project implementation. No one should involve politics in the issue of drinking water,” said Sadananda Gowda in Bengaluru on Sunday, September 20.

“One should not forget that Yettinahole and river Netravathi diversion are different issues altogether. Yettinahole project is about pumping of water from 1013 feet height. There is no harm either to the environment or to the fishing industry. The anxiety of the people of the coastal region is understood which seems natural. But the government has to take both pros and cons into consideration,” Gowda added.

“There are water problems in Kolar and Chikkaballapur regions. Even after digging thousands of feet, you will not get water at all. If at all you get, it is not fit to be consumed. We should show humanity with regard to drinking water necessity of people in those regions,” Gowda explained.

“In principle approval was given to the Yettinahole project when I was the chief minister. I wanted to create awareness about the project in Zilla panchayat level. But as I had to step down, I could not complete that task.” Gowda concluded.
