Bengaluru angry after cops blame accident victim's husband

Bengaluru, Sep 21, DHNS: The City police registering a case of rash and negligent driving against techie Omprakash, whose wife was killed after he bumped his bike into a pothole on Thursday, has drawn angry reactions from Bengalureans.

The people’s ire is also directed at civic bodies such as the BBMP and the BDA, which they feel are not discharging their duties. They want the civic authorities to own up responsibility for the accident, which killed software professional Stuthi Pandey (25) on the Devarabeesanahalli flyover near Marathahalli, instead of blaming others.

“What a joke? Do the BDA or the police have any witnesses, CCTV footage that say the person was driving rashly? Will anybody drive into a pothole on their own?” said user Victor_K in a comment on the report of the incident published on the Deccan Herald website.

Stuthi Pandey

Dr K B Vijayakumar lashed out at the police: “Arresting the husband showed the foolishness and stupidity of the police. What else can you expect from a department that is No. 1 on the corruption index? The genius who invented this cause for the case will be given a word-bashing by the courts. That will be our day. We can garland the ‘genius’ that day.”

Another netizen posted: “Even rash drivers don’t like to jump into potholes for fun. Hope the corporation will look into maintaining roads instead of doing resort politics.”

Sreesh R Babu, an advertising consultant living in Ramaiah Layout in Guttahalli, was livid. “The high court has been giving directions to the BBMP and the BDA to fill potholes and submit a report to it. But nothing has been done so far. The police themselves are shameless in registering a case against the husband, who must be going through major trauma. A case should instead be registered against the BBMP,” he told Deccan Herald.

He said there are umpteen number of potholes in his own locality. “There are no proper roads at all. I feel scared to even take out my scooter,” he said.

On micro-blogging website Twitter, Nabin Patro commented with the hashtags #Potholes and #Bangalore: “Authorities needs to be sued, if any incident occurs at unsigned #potholes (sic)”. He also tagged Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in his post.

Lets take it the husband was driving rashly which no one does having their spouse at the pillion. If the BBMP was prompt in their work would this accident occur? Now we can clearly see who has to be blamed.

We all know the roads are bad. What precautions we take?

Do we need to wait for a rule that requires both riders to wear properly belted helmets?

Head injury is the cause of death. She is not the first victim - but she can be the last if all of us protect ourselves.

Why blame others when we do not do our part??

It has become a habit to some to keep on blaming the Congress govt. particularly Sonia and Rahul for everything wrong happening on the earth, for the past five years, BJP has been holding the reigns of BBMP in Bangalore and they are collecting the taxes and they are supposed to maintain the roads. BBMP has been caught eating up the money and no infrastructure development. People are still electing the same party to power, we are to blame for putting such people to take the reigns of power in the BBMP. Hopefully this year we have to watch out if there is any improvement in Bangalore. We are fed up with the tug of war played in Karnataka between congress and BJP. Let us pray "God show some mercy on us and give wisdom to the BBMP to spare some money and use it to fill the pot holes of roads in Bangalore".

Utoh toh tax, baitoh toh tax
    Itna tax wasooli karteh hai
end of the date very bad facilities provided,
You are collecting tax, utilize it to give proper road facilities, drainage and water
Why we have to suffer in the hands of corrupt officials, who collect money from us and say they are not responsible
All the strict rules applicable to poor citizens who pay tax and get nothing in return, not even proper response....all of them paid by tax payers..which no one realize

When a child is small and falls on the ground and cries...The mother
pretends to 'hit the floor..scolding it for hurting the child'. this comforts the child.
Here the cops concerned are blaming
the poor Techies husband in order to 'comfort the pothole'!!
what A.s Holes we have as policemen!
    Is it not?

No medicine for Bhakt's who suffer from Smt Sonia Gandhi/Congress/Rahul Gandhi phobia...,
We must learn from our neighbour country NEPAL. By adopting a constitution they truly display / reflect & practice the real Hindu culture of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbham & Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava"
Good thing is that our honorable PM Namo already visited the progressive thinking NEPAL twice in the past 16 months..., ...keep it up, hopefully more to come..., good going..,

99% road accident in the city happens because of unscientific structure of our roads. For every accident, Govt is held responsibility. This is my self experience that several years before when I was riding by two wheeler, one dog came across the road, so if fell & i got injury as well my bike got damaged. I never knew as to how to claim an insurance. So, I visited nearest police station & I told my problems with a P.C., but instead of advising me, he said that it was your mistake due to negligence. I argued it's purely a mistake of pet owner why he put his dog outside his house purposefully to meet an accident. Moreover that time road widening works also carried out without any caution signals. Police instead of giving good advice or action, he wanted to blame me in this issue. What type of public servants they are? In the same spot, suppose accident happened to some ministers, are they taught like that? shame shame to the public servants behavior.

our improper roads takes thousands of lives in a year majority are two wheelers and the dead is gone u will never get any proper compensation because our law & entire govt working system is sold in the hands of dons , cops , politicians & greedy govt contractors, if you want to save u life and family members dont use two wheelers for family travel, use four wheelers , still u dont have budget buy tata nano far safer than bikes & scooters.
