Mangaluru, Sep 21: In a first of its kind initiative, the city-based Ramlans Charitable Trust (RCT) is in a mission to inculcate habit of charity in school children. The initiative named 'The Children for Charity Programmeme' is a brain child of 27-year-old Zeeshan Ramlan, managing trustee, who strongly feels the habit of giving needs to be taught to the child at a very young age.
The Children for Charity Programme aims at encouraging school kids to take up at least one charity work in the academic year. Through a holistic four step programme, the trust will teach students the most noble of all habits, that is, the habit of giving.
The programme will include a presentation to students on the importance of charity. Students will need to prepare a half page write up about their social work at the end of the year. The best charity work will be awarded towards the end of the year.
Speaking to daijiworld, Zeeshan said, "The next time your students organize a math or science project, ask them whether they know how people on street get their food or how does an orphan fulfil all his dreams. Chances are, they don't know the answers. Even though more and more charity work happen in the society, the students are not aware of what they could do to help the poor. This can definitely change with the growing effort to deepen student understanding of what it means to give back. Through a focused programme, students can learn the "why" behind helping the poor.
"The 'Children for Charity' initiative will create an impactful charitable programme that will assist the school in nurturing a student’s instinct to help others and the world around them," he added.
St Aloysius School has become the first school to enroll in this programme. The inaugural ceremony will be held on September 26 at 11.30 am at St Aloysius High School auditorium, and over 720 students will participate in the programme. The trust aims at covering thousands of students in the city. Daijiworld is the web partner, and 92.7 BIG FM the radio partner of this project.
About RCT
In the last two years RCT has conducted over 27 initiatives for the poor which include sponsoring education, providing financial aid to carry out weddings, construction of houses for the underprivileged, health camps, revamping old age homes, fun evenings, dream camps for HIV-positive kids, monetary aid to the physically challenged and distribution of food to the needy on streets.
The latest initiative was thee Excellence in Charity Awards 2015 which was handed over to unsung heroes in the field of charity.
