Udupi, Sep 23: Udupi district superintendent of police (SP) Annamalai on Wednesday September 23 launched the website of Udupi district police at his office here.
So far, the Udupi police used a blog to disseminate information on crimes. The newly-launched website udupipolice.org has been developed by Chipsy Mobility Services led by Sandeep Bhaktha, who had earlier developed the 'Suraksha' mobile app for Udupi police. Nikhil has designed the website and Vijay will monitor its functioning.
Addressing reporters, Annamalai said, "This website will have public circulars, daily crime reports, details of missing persons, wanted criminals, press releases and Sakala services.
"People can also download RTI applications and there is a 'Citizen's Corner' where people can file complaints, and know their rights and duties," he added.
Also, the website will contain photographs and details of police personnel who have recieved awards from the chief minister or the Prime Minister, and details of police departments in Udupi, Karkala and Kundapur and other police wings.
Moreover, people can also check the status of their passport applications and get more details about to the process of applying for passport itself. Also, information on traffic police and rules is also available.
On the 'Suraksha' mobile app launched a few months ago, Annamalai said, "The app has received good response from people, with 7,500 downloads so far. Even people in Dubai have responded. So far, 460 complaints have been lodged through the app."
When questioned about the frequent thefts at temples in the district, the SP said, "There are temples in remote areas which are unguarded. In a recent meeting we have asked all temples to install CCTVs. There are 38 temples in Udupi which are yet to install CCTVs."
On the mysterious disappearance of Malathi Shetty of Kundapur, who has been missing since June this year, he said, "She voluntarily left her home due to some family problems. Hence it is tough to trace her. No one has kidnapped her."
On the compulsory helmet rule for student riders which will come into effect from October 1, he said that TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) has already made helmet compulsory for its students and MIT, Manipal will also send a circular in this regard.
