Reservation not a charity, but a right- Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Sep 27 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said reservation policy should continue till there is discrimination of some communities in society.

Speaking at a convention of Mogaveera (fishermen) in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah criticised RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s reported statement calling for a review of the reservation policy.

“These people do not want any change in the social scenario. They want society to remain stagnant”, Siddaramaiah said and added that reservation was not a charity but the right of the socially deprived. He said the reservation system was ingrained in the Constitution for the upliftment of the downtrodden and not a political tool as portrayed by the RSS.

The chief minister said that communal elements were trying to divide society and all backward classes should unite to fight such forces. He said these communal forces were trying to impose Hindutava among Mogaveeras especially in coastal region and asked the community members not to succumb to such pressure.

Siddaramaiah said the State government has recommended to the Centre to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for Mogaveera community (at present classified as OBCs). “The ball in now in the Centre’s court. There are three Cabinet ministers from the State in the Union government. They should utilise their offices and get the state’s recommendation cleared”, the chief minister said.

look at the statement "The chief minister said that communal elements were trying to divide society and all backward classes should unite to fight such forces.". this is how these congis spread communcal issues. provoking people to fight among themselves. Just to retain the vote bank, he is ok to spoil the harmony in the society. 90% of the comments are scolding this approach of our CM and everybody asking to get rid of these reservation policies. LEt us all be same in the society and fight for everybody's development, NOT for the congress vote. please...

    ha ha ha...
looks its time for our CM to pack stuffs and go home. What a tragedy. Our honorable PM Modiji is meeting world class leaders and taking about Digital india , wifi , broadband ... etc etc. But , unfortunately, these congis and of course the CM is still talking of the retaining reservation, expanding reservation and today he was declaring next year Vishwkarma jayanthi will be celebrated by govt itself from next hear, he d at a Vishwakarma event. These are just to retain their only vote bank which is narrowing day by day. Just with the reservation and caste political stuffs they are holding few seats and states. IF they stop this approach ( even though it will happen soon or they will be forced soon), they will be with absolute zero seats and there ends the Italian ruling in India. So, this joker screaming a lot to retain reservation.

    Reservation:
Reservation is a must for a country like India where 5% of upper caste hold 50% of high lever positions.

Reservation promotes inclusive governance. Look at the chaos going on in Middle East between Shiite and Sunni groups because both do not want a inclusive governance.

Those who oppose reservation must visit Harijan colonies and slums. Sixty eight years after the India's independence and despite some stringent laws, the standard of living of SC/ST has not improved. The segregation of so called lower caste is still prevails in India.

We should dismantle colonies and segregated schools and bring those so called lower caste people to live in upper class neighborhood.

Once we treat all human beings like our own brothers and sisters, then there is no need for reservation.

Capitalist country like USA has the reservation/quota system let alone the socialist country like India.

utter bulls..it. More than the poor sector, most of them are at high positions and well settled even though they are not eligible or qualified for. Every body is flighting to get the backwoard status , just to enjoy the benefits. If we really want to help people who are poor and remaining undeveloped, we can very well do that irrespective of the religion or caste. We the NGOs like Lions, JCIs, rotary clubs, we help people who are really in need of. we don't think if they are backword community or from high end community kind of. These reservations have screwed up the generation and made them to get the luxury and benefits with out any hardwork to achieve it. It's a blunder that 90% marks candidates remain jobless and 30 - 40 % marks folks get in to good govy jobs just because they are from backward community. Let's stop these now.

Anyone can achieve 90% scoring irrespective of their caste in Indian education system, provided, he/she has to practice memorizing. Person who scored 100% is not necessarily an intelligent or suitable for govt. position because Indian education system is not designed to educate students in all round development and lack of which contributes for incompetence, corruption, audacity and low morale among most of the employees.
Besides, scoring 90% may not be a big achievement depending on from which printing press one gets his/her education.

Congress, BJP, JD, PD, BD etc parties should know that until they exist, the caste system will continue and so the reservation!. People of this country are foolish because they oppose reservation but support these caste based parties!. They are hitting their own leg is what they have forgotten to notice!. Nowhere to look but just a look at comments here in this forum is sufficient proof of what I am saying!

Mr.CM - would you care to clarify - right given by whom ? Even the creators of constitution wanted reservation only for 10 years. Politicians have used this or rather misused this to create divisions in the society to secure their vote banks. No politician in this country has the courage to say reservations must be withdrawn in a time bound manner and be given only to economically needy people.

60 plus years reservation... but still backward class remained backward

60 plus years without any reservation plus bad words from "budhdhi jeevis" plus small community without any political power .... still Brahmins are ahead of all communities in education, innovation, cultural programs, employment, and what not?

Moral of the story: Work hard and you get everything. Wait for reservation and you loose many things.

In this Baghwat and MK Gandhi are of the same view. Gandhi was opposed to the upward mobility of the lower castes. A cobbler's son should remain a cobbler and a barber's son should remain a barber. Gandhi and Ambedkar clashed on this. It is interesting how great minds think alike.

Reservation granted for particular community must be for ECONOMICALLY BACKWARD CLASS (EBC) as first preference. However, if the candidates not available in the EBC then it must be reserved for BC's only and should not transferred to general category and this is to full fill the sprit of the constitution.

We have witnessed many EBC/BC candidates unable to compete with urban dwelled/ rural rich family / genetical superior children due to lack of universal quality good education system unlike USA or Europe

Henceforth i am in a opinion to full fill the sprit of Indian constitution. Those who do not respect Indian constitution certainly don't like reservation policy.

Yes Siddanna….. Reservation is the right for everyone but not based on any particular community or religion. Everyone will accept the changes in social scenario but not at the cost of other communities or religions!!!! That’s what Hardhik Patel wanted to say recently at Gujarat but who cares???? First of all Political Parties should change their mentality when it comes to Reservation

YES, We also want reservation as it is our right. We have been discriminated under Khangress Govt by the Votebank Communities. Bunts, Billawas, Brahmins, GSBs etc....we all want to be listed under SC/ST and want at least 30 percent reservation in Education, and jobs no matter how good we are doing economically or not. RESERVATION IS OUR RIGHT.
