Mangaluru: Yettinahole 'row' - KRV protests on Netravati river!

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 27: There have been various forms of protests against the controversial Yettinahole project. There was highway bandh at Uppinangady, 'rasta roko' at Hampankatta, rallies and marches, and protests where black flags and sandals were waved at politicians. But beating them all, only in terms of uniqueness, was the protest held by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) on Saturday September 27 evening.

The student wing of KRV Mangaluru unit chose to protest against the project right in the middle of Netravati river, the lifeline of Dakshina Kannada district, which is claimed to be facing threat from the project.

Armed with their flags and banners, the protestors hopped on a boat near Jeppinamogaru bridge and rowed away, shouting slogans demanding immediate withdrawal of the project.

Addressing the protestors, KRV leader Rahim Uchil said, "Yettinahole project is harmful to the coastal region and hence there should be continuous and relentless protest against it. It is important that we realize Netravati is ours, and keep politics away from it. The entire coastal population should unite to protect and save Netravati river."

KRV district president Jagadish Aras, Madhusudan, Riyaz, Arun, Jamal, KRV student wing secretary Rihan and others took part in the protest.

Instead of taking our river water the Govt. should have proposed diverting desalinated sea water from the Arabian sea. Then there would have been no such trouble.

The earlier BJP State Govt. under Yeddiyurappa / Sadanand Gowda / Shettar had initiated this diversion ( project ) of the river. Now why are the same BJP members crying foul ??

The BJP had even initiated the new thermal plant at Niddodi. Let them not deny it now.

It has dawned upon the KRV that this project could become a catalyst for the Tulunad statehood movement. This is a damage control PR stunt to save face. Sadly the Bangalore Honchos are for this project, but their Mangalore branch is going against it. To put idiomatically, both legs are in different boats.

Dear MW, please note, Yattinahole project was initiated by BJP by taking crores of rupees as bribe from various industrialists in Bangalore / Mysore. They have deposited all this money in their bank account in overseas. I wish all the protesters should agitate in front of residences of BJP MP/MLAs and put pressure on them either to support the agitation against Yattinahole or leave BJP, currurpt party. BJP is playing double game here to blame Congress. BJP should be hold responsible for this unwise act which will damage the people of south Canara dist. BJP is doing everything to get money. Tomorrow they will sell India. Now our Feku NRI PM is touring and enjoying with our hard earned money. He seems as if we elected him only to tour. He never touches his to the PM chair in parliament. He is busy is giving illogic and unrealistic speeches.

If they are genuinely concerned about Netravathi diversion then they should disassociated themselves from KRV because their bosses and heads are not against the project and afterall KRV is a kannada organisation. Let them hold Tulunadu flag and protest against Netravathi diversion project.
