Mangaluru: Police ask women to leave party, allegedly after Bajrang Dal 'informs': Report

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Sep 27: The city police, allegedly acting on information provided by Bajrang Dal, on Saturday September 26 reportedly prevented women from attending a party at a discotheque in a three-star hotel. The women were forced to leave, while the party with only men revellers continued till night, claimed a media report.

Police sources however said that though the organizers had permission for DJ and 'get-together', they had also organized a fashion show and arranged liquor, for which they had not sought permission. Hence, the police raided the spot and stopped the organizers from holding the fashion show and cancelled the permit, sources said.

Police sources said that the organizers had wanted to hold the DJ till 1 am, but they were given permission only till 10 pm. But after it came to be known that they had arranged drinks and a fashion show without permission, their permit was cancelled. However, it is reported that the party still went on.

It is alleged that the police went to the spot at around 6.45 pm and made the women leave the party. A report in Hindustan Times quoted a person who was at the spot at the time of the raid, stating that five or six European women were also forced to leave. The person quoted in the report had gone to the party with his wife and children, the report stated.

The police asked the organizers to stop the music, but 45 minutes later, the music resumed on a lower volume and the party went on till 10.20 pm without women, the report said.

Police sources however denied that only women were told to leave. Speaking to daijiworld, DCP Shantaraju said that it was 'false information' being circulated in WhatsApp, but declined to give more information on what exactly took place. Another police source also denied that women were forced to leave.

As per the report in Hindustan Times, there were at least 20 women on the dance floor and another 40-50 waiting to enter when the police arrived.

Police commissioner S Murugan did not respond when daijiworld tried to contact him, but the Hindustan Times quoted him as saying that a probe would be ordered into allegations that the party continued without permission.

Meanwhile, as per the report, Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell 'thanked' the police for taking prompt action in the matter and 'cooperating' with the right-wing outfit after it complained about the party.

"Dance parties are organised by the drug and sex mafia. Women dancing in front of hundreds of unknown men is against Indian culture," Sharan Pumpwell told Hindustan Times.

However, police sources, while confirming that they did receive a phone call informing about the party, refused to name the caller and denied that it was from Bajrang Dal. The caller said, "If police don't take action, we will'," said a police source, but denied that Bajrang Dal activists were present at the time of the raid.

I do not want to sound pessimistic, but in all honesty, Mangalore should be taken off the list of Smart cities & put it on a list titled Shamed Cities. We will never see Aache din nor will we entice any investment. Mr. Modi, an open request - please when you call you Make in India - put Mangalore on the list where not to Make in India. We do not want to bring in investment to Mangalore only to see them leave due to moral policing. Also remember, the cops will do everything in their power to ensure that Mangalore remains in the grip of BD

You nailed it but the charge by BD is related to drugs and sex on offer during rave parties. BD wants everything for themselves, they can't see other people enjoying their lives. They may even enter a bedroom and snatch ur meal. BD goons thrive on haftha maamuli n extortion. They got licence to do anything that they deem is correct in the name of protecting Indian culture. Let every group n individuals take a clue from BD and exercise the right to do what you feel is good for you.

BTW will BD guys stop drinking alcohol if not meat and western attires? DOES BD HAS WOMEN RECRUITMENT UNIT? ISN'T IT DEVELOPMENT AGENDA A MASK FOR RIGHT WING ACTIVISM? what kind of activism is this where there is criminal conduct and threatening civil rights? Modi just speaks vikas but he harbours hatred among citizens of India by patronising babies of RSS. Modi must give importance to skill development of BD VHP cadres in nation building. Those who party have worked hard for their living and recreation is part of stress buster. Does goons have right to force their ideology on hard working citizens?

This is exactly why the youth in Mangalore go out of the city to work. There will never be improvement in our city if BD or other groups get involved in public personal activities. Cities like B'lore, HYD, Mumbai have their name & fame but these activists are scaring the outsourcing companies from creating their base in Mangalore. Let women & girls live how they want to live. Leave them alone please. You activists are so jealous of seeing my city improve. This automatically shows you guys are destroying Mangalore's name. THIS IS THE REASON PEOPLE IN THE WORLD DO NOT KNOW A PLACE NAMED MANGALORE EXISTS. Good luck my activist friends to improve our city.

The State police are usually always in the hands of right wing elements irrespective of which party's government is in the State. Even here in Maharashtra the police (especially at constable level) are completely controlled by the Shiv Sena since a long time. This is common knowledge here in Mumbai. This Police Officer seems to be failing to protect peoples right over narrow minded hoodlums.
It was their duty to give protection & not to take action of prevention even before threat materialised, they should have traced the caller & booked him for the threat to disrupt the party.
Serving of liquor is allowed in Star Hotels, unlike those that are held on halls or mantaps which require permit.
Home Minister's promise of stopping immoral policing proves a hoax. Its time for him to resign.

Dev, I totally agree with you. The police are not trained properly to protect the rights of citizen. They bend down for a threat and give in. Of course, they put a band-aid for the problem by violating the rights of women to enjoy. In a longer run they are paving the way for goondas to control police. Talibanization is no different than Bhajarangization!!! Where is our democracy and where is our constitutional rights?

... and FEKU goes to foreign countries and beg them to come to India and invest and 'Make in India'!

If they come to India, do they sit inside house after working hours? Don't they go out and party? Are you going to stop them or beat them also? Is there any guidelines set for foreign businessmen, before they decide to invest here?

How exactly this Immoral Rowdies are going to handle outsiders, who wants to become part of FEKU's 'Make in India' project???

If the party or the show organized without proper permission then it is wrong. Time keeping is also important as per the law of the land. It is always good to allow youth to enjoy. This is public place and police should monitor these places, so all is going well in this place. Otherwise again Mangalore will be in news for wrong reasons.

It looks like BD is wrongly taking the credit from this incident. BD never informs police as we seen the earlier incident. Their actions are goon actions and evils of society. I am sure, the BD goons are partying late night in the various hide outs. Police also should watchful on them too. They cannot see or tolerate others enjoying.

Police should punish the hotel management, whom they allowed to organize the party without proper permissions. If police are getting regular perks from the hotel, then there will not be any action on them.

Our political leaders are also too soft on these BD goons / evils of the society.

Smart City will be just a dream for this century.

    1) No money with the karnataka govt to But power from other sources,
    2) only providing all facilities and new subsidies to one community?
    3) full time electricity is provided only during election times. and announcing load shedding as soon as the elections are over. So for these reasons we should be happy for confress govt?
