Mangaluru, Sep 28: Muscat-based SEWA / South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association on Sunday September 27 distributed scholarships to deserving students of PU and degree courses, in a ceremony held at Jamiyyatul Falah hall, Kankanay here.
Addressing the gathering, Abdussalam Puthige, editor-in-chief of Vartha Bharathi, said, "Today intellectual ability is given more importance. Most of the students who lack IQ secure less marks and they develop negativity. Come what may, we should never let our spirits die. Life has both positive and negative aspects. We have to find our inner strength.
"Time is most valuable and nothing can replace it. So do not waste time on unwanted things, instead use it to achieve your goals," he advised the students.
"There is no alternative for hard work. We cannot achieve success by other people's hard work. If we have to reach our goals we need to work hard. When the world is sleeping, you should be awake and follow your dreams. This is what successful people do," he added.
S M Rashid Qazi, chairman of district Wakf committee said, "Nowadays girls are doing better in education than boys, and highly qualified women are finding it difficult to get grooms to match their level of education. Boys need to take up the challenge and work hard to match the girls.
"Nowadays youngsters want to go abroad after completing PUC - this attitude has to change. People of the community should make use of the government facilities given to minorities and try to achieve their goals. Those who do not know how to use the government facilities can contact Jamiyyatul Falah for assistance," he added.
Noted writer Prof B M Ichlangad said, "Women are more educated these days, and I am happy that literacy rate has increased especially among Muslim women. But these days, the society is more into online culture. Children at a very young age are getting influenced by mobile phones. Students need to be more responsible towards society and help others.
"Only the youth can change the society. Organizations like Jamiyyatul Falah can provide you hostels and financial aid, but the respect and concern for others has to come naturally," he said.
Scholarships for a period of three years were awarded to 28 students of PU and degree courses.
