Kundapur, Sep 28: In an incident reported at Koraga colony in Kumbhashi here late night on Sunday September 28, a couple who were in an inebriated state got into a fight, resulting in the murder of the woman.

The deceased has been identified as former Beejady gram panchayat member Jayamala (35).

Jayamala, originally from Gopady, had been married to Ramesh from Hallihole and they had three children. About four years ago, Jayamala left her husband and children and started living with Papanna from Koraga colony, Kumbhashi. Thereafter, she became a alcoholic like Papanna, and fights between the couple in drunken stupor became a routine, it is said.

However, the couple stayed in a house at Beejady, and sometimes at the house in Koraga colony at Kumbhashi which was in Papanna's mother's name. On Sunday night, the couple came to Kumbhashi house.

The locals saw the couple at around 7 pm. They got into a fight at around 10 pm, it is said. On Monday September 28, the locals found Jayamala lying lifeless and informed the police.

Jayamala's clothes were torn and there were injury marks on her back and head, sources said. As Papanna was nowhere to be found, it is suspected that he killed her.

Papanna had previously been married to one Lalita, who died a few years ago. Thereafter he came into contact with Jayamala.

Among Jayamala and Ramesh's three children, the elder daughter stays at home while son is working in a hotel, and the youngest daughter is in 6th standard. On learning about Jayamala's death, Ramesh arrived at the spot.

Jayamala was a former member of the Beejady panchayat and belonged to scheduled class.

SP Annamalai and others police personnel visited the spot. Canine squad and fingerprint experts also were called.

Kundapur police have registered a case and search for Papanna is on.
