"Police have registered a case for CARELESS DRIVING against Simrath. She was produced in court from where she was granted bail."

Does CARELESS DRIVING mean DRUNK DRIVING?

    Someone please help me understand?

By the way, while driving if something goes wrong you could end up hitting 5 instead of 2 vehicles...

does not necessarily mean you are drunk.

Drinking & Driving is indecent behaviour. This is a perfect lesson to the concerned lady and also to the others. Actually we comment without knowing the background of a person.

    Mr. Jawan Puttur,

From the last sentence in your comments it implies that you are unsure of whether or not the lady was drunk.

Yet 7 readers agree with you.

Probably I should have also hit the agree button and joined the flock.

drinking and driving,a big mistake which cost not only own life but others too.but when drunk, they dont realize it and like this Lady didnt want to riskher licence may be.but Police should have firmly asked her either to give a blood test or giveup her licence, when not they will bring a immediate a judges notice to made it done.AT the same time a bit truth in her saying might be there.but not must.we all know how Police too can sqeeze out from you, when you are on the wrong side.you have sometimes no other way.but when the woman has hit two cars ,sure the road was certainly not straight.!

She should have been forcibly taken for blood test. Why should there be leniency for women drivers?.Drinking and driving should have very strict laws and punishments.Roads will never be safe if anyone is allowed to drive with having drinks above the permissible limit.

There should be a limit how much u can drink before driving and if u cross the limit and if u r caught while driving above the limit police should detain them at the police stat till regain their strength to drive back to the house with a hefty fine and warning because lickers is sold by the govt. approved contractor in which govt. earns quite lot revenue. No need of making such big noise about small thing.

    Sudhakar,
My point of view is only about moral police and their attitude. Are we subject to their deciding factor how to live life? Let it be in Mangalore, Puttur or elsewhere.
I have never ever commented against Mr. Modi's wife or against Modiji's personal life or past profession.

Why tarnish the image of this lady without any proof? How can one say she consumed alcohol? She has the right to refuse the test, in retaliation, if the police asked bribe which no sober minded man can deny.

This lady did not dance or flirt with a man inside the car. May be she had alcohol and it is none of the immoral police duty to react.
Do you think they do drink & drive or flirt with women. Must watch their activities and way of life.

    Flavian,

Commenting on Modi's wife gives some sadistic enjoyment no?

Read comments from DW regular commentators. When it comes to their feet they write "humans bound to error". Otherwise they bluntly blame the society, caste, religion, some organization, everything.

    Sudhakar,

If the readers, you indirectly-pointed-finger-at were indeed bluntly blaming society, caste, religion or some organization, there could have been a mention yesterday when a ex-GP member died due to alcoholic factor. That it did not happened, makes your accusation baseless.

Nevertheless, the comment 'humans are bound to err' was because a commentator was seeking sympathy towards bad things happening towards the community which was incorrect.

There is no harm in giving a breathe test , it's not a invasive procedure, why fear if you haven't consumed alcohol to undefo the test? When a person drives under the influence of alcohol..... Anybody's life on the road is under stake, we should always co operate to undergo surveillance rather than retaliating, because then the others will follow. How to expect people to abide law if everyone opposes to follow?... Think about our own family / loved ones on the road when somebody is driving under the influence of alcohol and you will know the magnitude of the issue. No offence, to you.

Drinking/smoking among women especially modern generation and the affluent is a fashion trend and pretty common in metro cities so it should not be considered as a big issue!!

It is not befitting to belittle her for this mistake as most are guilty of such mistakes, only her behavior with the authorities was maybe overdone due to her alcohol highness or maybe what she is alleging against them is true!!

Recently one drunk woman abused a taxi driver who directly took her to the station where she dared to remove a bottle of beer and drink there while arguing with the police personnel there!!

The atrocities against woman should be taken seriously. Feels like the police has blown it out of proportion to extort money. The police action against woman is questionable. She must have refused to go to station in the absence of a lady constable.
