Mumbai airport, Taj Hotel on alert after terror threat

Mumbai, Sep 29 (IANS): The Mumbai domestic and international airports and the iconic Taj Hotel nearby received a terror threat, following which security agencies went on an alert, official sources said here on Tuesday.

The airport manager on duty late Monday night received a call that the airport and the Taj Hotel outside the airport may be attacked.

Described as a "specific threat", the agencies concerned beefed up security at these locations.

The incident comes on the eve of the quantum of sentencing for the 12 convicted for the 7/11 Mumbai serial train blasts, scheduled to be pronounced on Wednesday.

Officials at Taj Hotel, near Gateway of India in South Mumbai - which was one of the prime targets during the 26/11 terror attacks - were not available for their reactions.

After several tragedies in Mumbai like the 93 blasts, the train blasts, 26/11 attacks at CST station, Taj Hotel Colaba, Leopold Cafe (Colaba), Nariman (Chabad) House etc. and several other smaller attacks, Mumbaikars and the security agencies here have become hyper alert to these kind of situations. However, irrespective of political party successive state governments have been far lacking in beefing up security systems (installing workable modern CCTVs), providing latest weaponry, personnel protection (high quality bullet proof vests & helmets) and training to the police to handle such threats. Even intelligence gathering and sharing with the Centre needs much improvement.

Terrorists will get enough support from few Indians itself, so when we have those people who lives in India why we need enemies like Pakistan. we have many Pakistanis here who are actively involved in anti national activities.till we don't eliminate them we will not have a peaceful sleep in our own country.

Dear Prakash, I fully agree with you that there are many Pakistani supporter in India. YOu may remember that couple of years back, Sri Rama Sena had hoisted Pakistani Flag in Karnataka. This shows that there are the Pakistani Agents. We are also coming across various false bomb threats and after thorough investigations it is found that all the people doing these innocence belongs to sangh parivar. I hope you also agree to this and will support crushing activities of organisatins which support these terrorists. I am sure you are a true Indian and will not tolerate inhuman and anti-indian activities of certain orgainsation which are indirectly supporting Pakistan. There are many more organisations who are not respecting Indian Constitution, do not respect Father of nation and praise/worship killer of Father of Nation (I think you know them). Jai Hind.
