Karkala: Three including child killed in accident at Belman

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala

Karkala, Oct 1: Three of a family including a child were killed in a ghastly accident at Belman here on Thursday October 1.

As per initial information, Prakash (28), Sumitra (23), and Srushti (4) were killed in the accident.

The accident took place between a bike and a car near Belman Church.

It is said that Prakash, his wife Sumitra and their child Srushti were riding to Belman to get their Aadhaar cards done when the car hit them.

Sources said that the car driver, who is yet to be identified, tried to overtake their bike from the wrong side and rammed into them. He fled from the spot soon after the accident, leaving his Duster car behind.

The car was moving from Davangere towards Mangaluru, sources said.

Prakash and Sumitra were orginally from Gadag and employed in a quarry in Paralpade, where they were staying in a shanty. It is learnt that Sumitra was eight months pregnant.

Karkala rural police arrived at the spot.

Someone commented that the car should be burnt. Dear friends, burning the car or the lorry is burning the insurer's money which is our own money. The person will get insurance claim. Only the government and govt owned insurance company will be the loser which is the tax amount paid by us. Please do not burn cars and lorries when accidents occur. You are burning your own money in the process. Besides it is illegal.

Heart rending scenes. May god bless the departed souls. From the point of perspective of the car driver, I feel that since nothing can bring back the dead to life, exacting revenge on the car driver is not fair (As the good book says, an eye for an eye makes the world blind). These are wrong decisions taken in split seconds and he definitely seems to have taken a wrong decision (probably hit the accelerator instead of the break) for which action he will anyway suffer both at the hands of the law and the lawyers. Even the law says that where there is no "mens rea" (intention to kill), the punishment is less harsh. This is not to justify his act which has resulted in the death of an entire budding family, but it can happen to anyone. Assuming even that the biker was at fault, if the car was within permissible speed, they would not have died. Still, since there is no survivor to be taken care of, punishing an old man for a huge blunder does not help anybody. Let us hope and pray that at least the parents of both the husband and wife are given proper compensation by both the law and the driver and the driver too gets reasonable sentence. SPEED KILLS LITERALLY. This car driver may not have killed even an animal with his bare hands ever in his life, but he now has the blood of two youngsters and one child and an unborn child upon his soul. May he repent his actions and do good to society. God bless.

Driver is responsible for the deaths of four innocent people. He should be charged with multiple murder and should not be let off citing it as a mere accident.

This is an extremely unfortunate incident and may the departed RIP. However as responsible reporters and readers it is our duty to not distort a piece of information to where our imagination takes us. Accidents do not happen intentionally that is why they are called accidents and not necessarily does every accident have a drunken driving scumbag who flees the spot. There are a few facts here that have failed to make it to the article above.
The accident place is known to be accident prone. Refer to article on July 08,2014. Why weren't preventions put in place already?
Don't you think an accident of this proportion must have impacted the car driver as well? He did rush to help the fallen as soon as he recovered but confusion, fear, shock, denial, guilt, anger, sorrow are emotions must have been all over the place. People cannot be reasoned with under such circumstances, they only react. He was soon beginning to become prey to mob rage.
The driver was advised to leave from there by a gentleman. He did not flee from the law like how it was made to appear in the above article. He went straight to the police station. This was the most decent thing to do under the given circumstance.

The most important thing to take from this is that three more lives were lost in an accident that could be avoided and the survivor has to live with it for the rest of his life. How many more lives have to be lost before our traffic regulations become more efficient? How many more before speed reading camers are installed and helmets are made compulsory ? How many more before strict rules prohibit more than two people on a two wheeler? How many more!!

It seems you are the culprit or either related to the culprit. Carrying a child along is not three people riding on a bike. Second, they did not break any law. Also, no law however strictly implemented can avoid such kind of accidents which obviously was the fault of the car driver who wanted to overtake from the wrong side. If you do not have the heart to feel for a dead family, at least do not throw mud on them. Shamelessly blaming every one else including the govt and traffic regulations, which have nothing to do with this accident which is just the reckless driving of the car driver.

What happened is very bad, condolences to the other family members RIP hardworking innocent riders.

Few facts to be known about the incident.

    1. True, the drive was over taking from the wrong side.
    2. True, driver was not following the speed limit of 80km/hr and was above the speed.
    3. Yes, the driver left the car and vanish from the spot then later he SURRENDERED to the Police station and also informed them about what happened. In Indian even before you think twice u raise ur hand so he fled the spot and went to the police station.
    4. Agreed taking to hospital is a valid point here in this case because of the impact, all 3 where spot DEAD. Where the driver got panicked and went to station directly.
    5. Driver was not intoxicated.

Legal actions are under way and will be done as per the Indian Law.

Lesson to all. Drive Safe, be safe and let others be safe too.

This road has become wide recently and all vehicles more than 80 km/hr an some cars over 100 even its not one way.
Some kind of speed regulations are a basic requirement on this roads.
Some of the big education institution such as Nitte engineering college also lies besides this roads and there are no speed breakers or divider in front of this college. Students and two wheeler crossing the roads often become victims.
    Concerned people please respond soon.

    People,

Tragic accident...RIP Prakash, Sumitra, and Srushti...

I think issuing drivers license should be made very strict...nobody without proper training should be able to get drivers license ...drunk driving laws should be strictly enforced...this road is state highway...nobody could blame the road here...

Unfortunately people think about road accidents only after they occur...unfortunately not before they occur...

Even safe driver/rider is at risk from others recklessness.

If all were wearing helmets- perhaps death due to head injury can be avoided.

Let the people who are in a hurry pass us by and lets not pay for others mistakes with our lives.

I guess - we have to drive in such a way to avoid the mistakes and imperfections of the : reckless drivers, pot holes and stones on the road.

While it is noteworthy that some hospitals are promoting the organ donation scheme, no one is involved in educating the 2 wheeler riders to wear helmets.
If we put all the deaths on our roads put together, easily several thousands die and yet we have more fear of air/plane safety but not safety of our roads.
The lines of the song by Bob Dylan aptly describe the loss:

Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died ?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind....
