New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS): A total of 208 Delhi Police personnel on Wednesday donated blood for dengue patients in the national capital.

The policemen donated blood in a camp called "DAAN" in coordination with Red Cross Society for providing blood platelets to the dengue patients.

The camp was organised at police headquarters.

Those who donated blood include Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra, along with senior officials of the force.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi, who visited the camp, said: "This is yet another effort by us to contribute meaningfully when Delhi is in the midst of the worst dengue outbreak in the last two decades."

"Through this program, we wish to reiterate our motto - With You, For You Always. We have also prepared a list of at least 300 police personnel who will provide their blood, on the basis of requirement, in any part of Delhi," Bassi said.

Delhi has so far reported over 7,606 cases of dengue, which is more than twice the number of cases registered in 2010 -- 3,555.

The toll, till date, has reached 25 this year, the highest-ever since 1996.
