Tokyo, Oct 9 (IANS): Japan stocks opened higher in early trading on Friday as investor sentiment was boosted by gains in European and US stocks.
At 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 88.91 points (0.49 percent) from Thursday to 18,230.08, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all first section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 16.04 points (1.08 percent) to 1,497.44.
Gainers were led by iron and steel, oil and coal products and nonferrous metals.
