Mangaluru, Oct 14: Residents in an apartment building at Shanthi Bagh, Deralakatte on Tuesdayy October 13 filed a complaint with the police alleging that Dorina Maria Tauro, the manager of the building, has 'duped' them of lacs of rupees by failing to return their security deposits taken at the time of the lease agreement. The lease agreements have expired but the money has not been returned, they said.

It is learnt that Dorina was appointed as the manager for the building by the owner of building, who stays abroad. Dorina had reportedly taken lacs of rupees from the residents while giving the flats for lease on agreement. After the lease agreement expired, the residents approached Dorina to ask back their deposits, but she kept postponing the payment. Finally, the frustrated residents filed a police complaint.

Speaking to daijiworld, Rajesh, a resident in one of the flats said, "I leased the flat after paying Rs 2 lac, which was refundable as per the agreement. After the lease agreement expired and I approached to get back the refundable amount, but she did not pay it back. I too have filed a complaint in the Ullal police stations." In fact, each of the affected families have filed separate complaints against Dorina, it is learnt.

The residents then approached the Tulunada Rakshana Vedike, whose woman wing leader Jyothika Jain approached the police commissioner's office demanding action in the case.

It is also alleged that the building owner has failed to maintain the drainage system and the panchayat has issued a notice in this regard.

Daijiworld tried to contact Dorina for a response, but she was unavailable.

This appears a very funny case as no one who is staying on lease would vacate the premises without getting back his deposit amount!! And how come so many of them vacated the premises when they knew that someone who had earlier vacated was cheated or did they vacate en masse???

Seeing the building in the picture, it is very difficult to digest someone claiming he paid a deposit of 2 lacs!! If the deposit is 2 lacs then the rental should not be less than 50k/month as per market norms!!

Why have these people vacated the flats before getting back the deposit??? They should continue occupying the flats and adjust their rentals till the deposit amount gets cancelled. Jai Mangluru!!
