Gadag, Oct 14: A couple who were in love but could not marry each other just because they belonged to different communities ended their life in Agra where the monument of love Tajmahal stands.

The deceased lovers Rajananda (26) and Gauri (15) are from Gadag in Karnataka. Their bodies were found in a hotel in Agra on Monday, October 12.

As per the reports, Rajananda and Gauri, who were in love realised that they could never live together as they belonged to Marathi and Lingayat communities respectively. Their families upon knowing about their love said that they would not approve their marriage.

The railway tickets for Nizamuddin recovered from their belongings confirmed that they left Gadag on October 6. The couple had checked in at the hotel on Sunday October 11 morning and had later left to visit the Taj Mahal. They came back on the same evening but were not seen outside the room after that. The shocking news was known after an auto rickshaw driver, who was asked to come and take them on a city tour, came to the hotel and knocked on their door. Then the hotel staff called the police as there was no response. The police found the dead bodies inside the hotel room with a suicide note.

The suicide note written in Kannada said that as they were from different communities and their families were against their marriage, they were compelled to take the extreme step.

The couple mentioned in the suicide note that they had come to Agra with the sole intention of committing suicide. The note also said that no one else was responsible for their deaths.

The police said that the couple held their hands together while dying after probably consuming a drink laced with poison.
