Entries invited for 2016 MickMax Konkani drama competition

Mangaluru/Dubai, Oct 15: The present governing committee of Daiji Rang Mandir, the eminent forum of Konkani stage artistes in Dubai, has invited experienced Konkani writers to send their newly written manuscripts to be considered for 2016 MickMax Memorial Prize.

The competition was launched in 2015, with noted playwright Eddie Sequeira winning the maiden award.

 

Manuscripts should be submitted to Daijiworld Weekly office in Mangaluru on or before January 31, 2016.


Terms and conditions:

• There is no entry fee. Plays should be handwritten/typed/word processed, page numbered and filed in standard A-4 format.

• This contest is restricted to Konkani plays in Kannada scripts only.

• The length of the play should be restricted to about one hour.

• Submissions should be new, original, unpublished and not performed.

• Translations, musicals, adaptations, inspired work and children’s plays will not be accepted.

• Dramas that are already staged will not be accepted for the contest.

• If drawn to legal issues, writer will be solely responsible to the content. Daiji Dubai or Daiji Rang Mandir disclaims such responsibility.

• The rights of presentation and printing of winning drama would be reserved by Daiji Rang Mandir for the next 3 years.

• While transferring the rights back to writer after 3 years, if the writer wants to print or stage the drama, contest winning annotation should be specified in print, publicity and presentation.

• Writer need to keep a copy of the manuscript. The copy given for contest entry will not be returned to the writer.

• Previous year’s first prize winner is not eligible to contest. The competition is intended to support emerging playwrights.

• The working committee reserves the rights to reject any manuscript for any reason. Judges decision is final. No discussion is permitted on results before or after.

The covering letter should contain signature, date, postal address, email id and telephone number underneath the following note of promise:

“I.... (Name) herewith submit my original and new manuscript……….. (Title of the drama) for Daiji Rang Mandir MickMax Memorial Best Konkani Drama Prize. If selected as winner, I will accept the prize winning amount and pass on the rights for 3 years to Daiji Rang Mandir.”

The first prize winner and the second prize winner will be awarded Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively together with trophies and certificates of honour. A panel of judges will make the analysis and the winner will be announced before the end of March 2016.

The late MickMax’s well-wisher Dubai-based Nelson Rodricks and Family is sponsoring the prize amount on annual basis. "The late MickMax’s legacy in the field of Konkani music, art and literature cannot be forgotten and this is my small attempt to keep it alive for generations to come," says Nelson Rodricks, who hails from Mangaluru.
