New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS): Kharif crops have been sown on a total area of 1,038.81 lakh hectares as on Friday against 1,025.82 lakh hectares during the corresponding time last year, official data showed.
Rice, a widely-eaten food in the country, was transplanted on 378.24 lakh hectares, pulses on 115.62 lakh hectare and coarse cereals on 186.07 lakh hectares, according to the data released by the agriculture ministry.
Oilseeds were planted on 185.15 lakh hectares, sugarcane on 48.84 lakh hectares and cotton on 117.09 lakh hectares.
