Mangaluru, Oct 21: Two persons died in a collision between a car and a bike at Uchila under Ullal police limits here on Wednesday October 21.

The deceased have been identified as Uchila residents Mohammed Ali (35) and Ibrahim (65).

The accident took place in front of a petrol bunk at Uchila on Wednesday afternoon.

Ibrahim and Mohammed Ali were riding from Thokkottu towards Talapady when a speeding Innova car moving from Kasargod towards Mangaluru, with Delhi registration number, rammed head-on into their bike.

The impact of the collision was such that the car dragged the bike for about 20 metres and both died on the spot.

It is said that Ibrahim's third daughter's marriage was fixed for November 1, and Ibrahim and his relative Mohammed Ali were going to Talapady to distribute wedding invitations when the accident took place.

The Ullal police have registered a case against the driver of the car, identified as James George.

Deeply saddened with this tragedy, two precious lives are lost for no fault of theirs. This is a tragedy in waiting, and this is due to the negligence of NHAI authority, as this national highway (NH 17) is undergoing a big makeover and widening since 4-5 years. Presently the highway is under repair, and everyone must be extremely careful when driving.
Lack of safety measures like road signs, warning signs and sensitivity and responsibility on the part of local & state authorities to look into on the busy roads repairs like this is main reason.
Unfortunately, our road condition has also played a role here. There is a road on the other side and hence it's supposed to be a one way. But as our normal situation one side will be blocked for repair works, without proper safety measures. Same condition is there are many places from to pumpwell to Talapady. Suddenly road becomes one way, suddenly two way... so these vehicles will get confused. Some places driver’s didn't realize the one way was over and there could be vehicles from other side.
I humbly request concerned authorities to put warning signs which notifies motorists of the road repair, one/two ways traffic, and also to install road humps/ speed breakers on this highway.

unfortunately, our road condition must have also played a role here. I can clearly see there is a road on the other side and hence it's supposed to be a One way. But as our normal situation one side will be blocked for reason which nobody knows. Same condition is there are many places from thokkottu to pumpwell and also towards Udupi. suddenly road becomes one way, suddenly two way... so these vehicles from far of places will get confused. Few days back there was an accident at Surathkal where the lorry driver didn't realize the one way was over and there could be vehicles from other side. he came straight and all of sudden seeing vehicle from opposite direction , he was panic and bang the vehicle coming from other direction. So, here also I suspect some similar issue. but tragic event and we lost 2 young lives. RIP

Two wheelers, be careful in and around Mangalore roads. I think the Innova Car with Delhi number plate means, they must be driving all the way from Delhi or must be the person behind the wheel is tiered or sleepy!

    It's the other way around.....

The Innova is totally on the wrong side of the road... If I assume that India drives right hand.

A clear indication that the innova was dangerously over speeding probably while overtaking other vehicles on the road.

Loss of two lives who might not even have been party to this horrendous accident, innocent victims.

While over speeding is trend all over the world, India excels in vehicular homicides.

I think this is due to the negligence NHAI authority as national highway undergoing repair. From both side vehicles are released as delhi registered vehicle driver hasn't noticed this and he was in full speed.Sad for the incident RIP
