Valencia Premier League cricket tournament to start from Oct 24

Mangaluru, Oct 21: "Youth Welfare Committee from St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia Mangaluru will be holding Valencia Premier League, a 4 days cricket tournament, from Saturday October 24 at Foot Ball Grounds, in Nehru Maidan. Matches will be held on October 24, 25, 31 and November 1.” said Anil Lobo convener of Youth Welfare Committee.




He was addressing the press meet at press club here on Wednesday, October 21.

Anil said that the inauguration of the cricket tournament will be held on Saturday October 24 at around 9.00 am. MLC Ivan D' Souza will inaugurate the tournament while Manohar Amin, the president of Karnataka State Cricket Association Mangaluru province will be the chief guest. D M Aslam of Dakshina Kannada District Foot Ball Association will be the honourary guest and Fr James D'Souza will preside over the function.

The teams selected for the final round are, Milagres United, Kulur Nights, Jeppu Avengers, Cascia Super Kings, Viva Valencia, Neermarga United Eleven, Angelore Arrangers, Raising Star Paldane, Bajal Whales and Vamanjoor Strikers. Valedictory function will be held on November 1 at around 3.00 pm. MLA Moideen Bava and Mayor Jacintha Alfred will take part in this programme.

Winning cricket team will get Rs 1,00,000 cash and Trophy (VPL Championship 2015) and runners up will get Rs 50,000 cash and Trophy (VPL Championship 2015). Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Best player will be given Rs 10,000 each. And there will be 'Man of the match' award in every match.

Fr James D'Souza the parish priest of St Vincent Ferrer church, Arun Raj Rodrigues the vice president of parish council, Louis J Pinto the former vice president of parish council, Patrick D Souza the organiser of VPL were present in the press meet.

    I don't think this is a good idea. Youth should spend time studying and doing social service instead playing life away.

    Very good move on the part of Valenbcial Parish to initiate the Valencia Premier League Tournament that will benefit not only the youth of many parishes and also the public.

    "Organization" is the key when a Catholic Parish becomes involved in the Sports competitions. Well esstablished Rules and Regulations are equally important in order to implement proper Tournament.

    Exchange of Sports competition also brings inter-parish relations so that the youth also becomes involved actively. Sports activities also bring closer solidarity amongst different faiths.
