Final phase of Indradhanush immunisation programme inaugurated

Mangaluru, Jan 4: Fourth and final phase of 'Mission Indradhanush-2015' an immunisation programme for pregnant women and newborn babies was inaugurated on Monday January 4, at Lady Goschen Hospital, in the city.






MLA J R Lobo inaugurating the programme, gave Polio drops and BCG vaccine to the newborns.
Addressing the gathering, Lobo said, "Indradhanush programme was launched in 2014 with the view to immunize all children against seven vaccine-preventable diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough (Pertussis), tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B. Our district has been already declared polio free. But as there is inflow of construction workers coming from other places, this vaccination is given as a preventive measure. Everyone must make use of this immunization programme. This is the fourth and final phase of Indradhanush programme. I urge the public to cooperate and make use of this programme. I also congratulate all the officers for organizing this programme effectively."

Three phases of Indradhanush programme have been completed in the month of October, November and December 2015. Fourth and final round of Indradhanush programme will continue on January 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12. Immunization will be done for pregnant women and for children below two years. For pregnant women anti Danurvaayu TT vaccination will be given as well.

For children below two years, diphtheria, whooping cough (Pertussis), tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B vaccinations will be administered. There is a target of covering 997 pregnant women and 4013 children below 2 years of age.
