Roopith D'Souza from St Aloysius to participate at Republic day camp

Mangaluru, Jan 12: Cadet Roopith D'Souza is the only cadet selected from the junior division of NCC Airwing of the State to participate at the Republic day camp 2016 at New Delhi. He also got selected as the Best cadet of Airwing of Karnataka and Goa Directorate.

NCC is a very big youth organization of India and participating in the Republic day camp is a big dream of every cadet. Selection for Republic day camp is very tough process, where many pre-Republic day camps are held and only those cadets perform excellent are qualified for the next camp. Firing, Rifle drill, normal drill, group discussion, general knowledge, current affairs, interview and cultural programme are important aspects of the selection criteria.


Roopith is studying in 9th std at St Aloysius High School, Mangaluru. He has created a new record of the First ever and the only one junior cadet from Dakshina Kannada District, by participating at Republic day camp. He is the first ever Best cadet of junior wing of DK district. He is also got selected as a key board player in the All India NCC cultural team, which will perform in front of President of India and chiefs of 3 defense forces.

Roopith is a good sportsman too. He bagged 2 silver medals in 100 mts and 400 mts at state level athletics in the year 2015 and represented Karnataka state at national meet also.

From childhood, he has a passion towards music and got many prizes in western music. He has passed 6th Grade exam in key board with merit certificate conducted by Trinity College of London. He is an active member SUMEL, of Mand Shoban a famous name I Konkani music.

Roopith is the son of Ignatius Dsouza of Sumangala Agro Supplies, Mangaluru and Prithi D'Souza a science teacher at Cassia high school.

    Congratulations Roopith. Its not a easy task to get ed for the RD parade. I myself have undergone thru' this and luckly made thru' at both junior and senior level NCC. It a great honor for every cadet when you march down the rajpath. Of course the retreat is another dream come true and interacting with the President is an awesome feeling.
