Udupi: Clothes catch fire during cooking - woman loses life

Udupi, Jan 13: After her clothes accidentally caught fire when she was cooking, a woman suffered serious injuries and breathed her last on Monday January 11 night.

Nagavalli (50), wife of Paramashiva, was killed in this incident. The couple from Pondicherry had made the town their home.

On Sunday January 11, Nagavalli was cooking fish curry in the kitchen. She had pumped air into the tank of kerosene stove the couple used, and was lighting the stove when flames suddenly leapt towards her. Fire spread to her clothes within seconds and she suffered grave burn injuries.

She had been admitted into KMC Hospital, Manipal. Without responding positively to the efforts made by doctors to save her, Nagavalli passed away on Monday night. On the basis of a complaint filed by Paramashiva, a case of unnatural death stands registered in the town police station here about this incident.
