Explosive material, crackers, explode - wall crashes, woman injured

Mangaluru, Jan 13: After a spot where explosive materials and crackers had been stored caught fire accidentally on the night of Tuesday January 12, a woman was injured.

The incident occurred in a house belonging to Siraj at Korakambala near Bajpe police station. Siraj, it is gathered, has been undertaking work of supplying different kinds of crackers for events like car festivals, Yakshagana programmes, Kola etc. For this purpose, he had stored crackers in a bathroom that is not in use.

On Tuesday night, this stock of explosives accidentally came in contact with spark and gave rise to huge explosion. The policemen said that a gas cylinder inside the house also exploded as a result.

A number of locals, taken aback by the deafening sound of the explosion, ran out of their houses. The explosion was followed by billowing of thick smoke from the house of Siraj. A wall of the house developed cracks and crashed to the ground. A woman, Sahina, suffered injury in the incident.

Thick smoke covering the house had made the task of approaching it daunting. Bajpe police personnel visited the spot and took up investigation.
