Bengaluru, Jan 19: Two MLCs – H M Revanna and Byrathi S Suresh – reportedly squabbled over the ruling Congress party’s ticket for contesting elections for the Hebbal assembly constituency in the city.

Both the leaders, belonging to the same Kuruba caste and are staunch loyalists of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, reportedly had verbal exchanges at Revanna’s residence in the city on Tuesday.

While Suresh, an independent MLC, called on Revanna to stake a claim on the party’s ticket in Hebbal constituency, the latter being one of the aspirants, strongly hit out at Suresh.

According to sources, Revanna is learnt to  have told Suresh that he should not muddy the waters by staking claim for the seat as he had no stake in the constituency being a resident at K R Puram in the city.

However, Suresh made it clear that he was keen to contest elections.

But Revanna strongly opposed Suresh’s plea and told him to have a patience to grow in politics.

Apparently, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge too expressed views against fielding Suresh.

Suresh, who is not a member the party, has been making every effort to grab the Congress ticket in the constituency, which would go to bypolls for February 13.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru City Congress office-bearers held a meeting at a private hotel and discussed about selection of candidate for Hebbal. 

A delegation led by Congress veteran Rehman Khan called on KPCC President and Home Minister G Parameshwara and sought ticket for the minority candidate since minorities have a sizeable presence in the constituency. 

While speaking to reporters, Dr Parameshwara said party’s committee headed by Bengaluru Development Minister K J George would recommend names to suitable candidates for him, which in turn would be sent to Congress high command for approval.
