Bengaluru, Jan 20: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday accused Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and her colleague Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattareya of being responsible for the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohit Vemula in University of Hyderabad campus.

“Both Union Ministers are the abettors in the crime,’’ he said and expressing grief over the death of the research scholar.

Siddaramiah said “Vemula was under pressure from the Union HRD Ministry at the instance of Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, which forced him to end his life.”

The repeated letters sent from the Union HRD Ministry to the Vice Chancellor of the Hyderabad University and subsequent development of the eviction from the University hostel, must have driven the Dalit scholar to take extreme step to end his life, he said.
